I'm braced! (Mostly . . .)

Hello! I just got back from my braces appointment! It went really well, and I felt very prepared, which definitely helped. I am not having too much in the way of discomfort right now and I feel really positive. It is a little weird feeling the brackets under your lips for the first time, and I know ...

Hey, I feel your pain! I had spacers put in 3/23, and ended up picking them out because I couldn't deal with it. I had them put back in last Friday, in preparation for my brace day, which is tomorrow. They hurt me something awful for quite a while, and today they are just a little sore, not really i...

That's funny! I had a dream last night that I was in the office to get my braces on, and my orthodontist only put on the top braces, but he didn't put on the archwire, and then he put brackets on my molars and caused them to crack! And then, he told me to come back that afternoon to put the bottom b...

I can totally feel where you are coming from. I am getting braced on next Tuesday, and I am rehearsing for a ballet recital. It is my first performance on a real stage, and I will be dancing solo!!! It is hard enough to be the "oldest" person dancing (I am 23 and representing the adult cla...

Congratulations, Dundee! Sounds like things are going pretty well for you. From what I've read, adjustment times seem to vary widely. My ortho told me that it would be about every 6 weeks for me. I am planning to go with ceramic uppers, but I am really not sure which brand/type they use. I've not he...

I know what you mean about the tight teeth. The tech putting in the spacers tried first with the plier thingy's and couldn't get them in, and had to floss them in. She ended up breaking one of them and breaking the floss as she tried to get it out from between my teeth. My gums were all cut up from ...

Wow! You are definitely lucky! I only have spacers and they are hurting something awful. This morning, I woke up thinking "WHAT AM I DOING?? CAN I REALLY GO THROUGH WITH THIS??" Then I took some aleve and got over it. They are still sore, and rubbing on the gums with my finger really comfo...

My ortho's office seems mostly catered to kids - he's got an arcade game and three small televisions each with playstations. But I really don't mind too much. I asked one of the assistants if they have many adults, and she said that at least 40% of his patients are adults. I really like it so far. O...

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! I am leaning heavily toward ceramics on top, metal on the bottom, since my ortho doesn't charge extra. It is so awful, I have already lost 3 of these spacers (mostly because I kept messing with them). I called the office today, but they told me to just wait until 4 ...

Thanks so much for your replies! I definitely want to have fun with colors. I'm thinking of blue, as I have a ballet recital coming up and my costume is this gorgeous blue color. Or maybe I'll do blue and pink! Hmmm, I've got some thinking to do! Anyhow, KK, I absolutely love the purple ligs. I also...

So far, I have to say that I am very pleased with my ortho. He even gave me great parting gifts - a cd and a dvd of gospel music videos. For the most part, the assistants seem nice. Maybe I'm weird, but I am SO looking forward to April 4th when the braces go on!

Metal vs. ceramic dilemma

Hello, all! My ortho does not charge any extra to have ceramics put on top, so I am considering doing that. However, I would like to be able to have fun with color. I've seen some pics here with colors on ceramics, and I thought they looked great. However, when I mentioned it to one of the assistant...

Hi, All! I am 23, after 3 orthodontic consultations have found the right fit, and I'm moving forward. I did my records and molds today, and had spacers put in. I have only minor issues, and my ortho is optimistic that I can be done in as little as 12 months. YEAAA! I've been reading this board for a...
