Braces off on Halloween!

Yep, crazily enough, my braces are coming off at 9am on Halloween!! Have had them on since Feb 2007, very excited! And... I can have a -small- amount of trick-or-treat sweets without feeling too guilty, yay!

Is anyone else getting debraced on or around Halloween?

Re: congrats

Thanks to everyone for their kind words and well wishes! I certainly don't think I'm an inspiration (lol I didn't really do anything!), but I hope my story makes people feel a lot better about having braces in general :D congrats on getting engaged.. me and my wife have been married for 3 months now...

I'm so happy for you, jaynage! It just goes to show you that braces don't change who you are, and those who love you could care less that you have them! I hope readers of this forum who are reluctant to pursue orthodontics because of how it will make them look will read this and realize how insigni...

I'm still braced, and..... NOW I'M ENGAGED!

I've been visiting this forum since I was braced early last year, and although I haven't been a regular contributor (more of a reader than a writer :P) I just wanted to share some happy news with some fellow brace'ees! I had the braces put on in Feb 2006, at which point I had been with my partner fo...

The over bite is the vertical overlap of the upper front teeth over the lowers. It is a vertical measurement. When the over bite is excessive, the lower front teeth are hidden by the uppers. This is also referred to as a deep bite and is the opposite of an anterior open bite. An over jet is when th...

Question: Overbite vs Overjet?

Ok so at the risk of sounding a bit ignorant... I know what an overbite is, but can someone please explain what an overjet is?
Thanks!!

The thing I am looking forward to most, is getting engaged and getting married with a beautiful smile! My partner and I have been discussing our future, but I've set down the law - nothing happens until I get these darn things off my teeth! Not long to wait though - my ortho reckons it will be Septe...

Ugh, what a cranky pants! I feel very lucky to have such a friendly ortho. I've got ceramic braces, and I was in the clear-coloured powerchains for a good 7 months or so whilst closing extraction gaps, so I feel your stain pain! My ortho actually said that if the chain got really stained and yellow,...

I have to use an open-mouth smile in photos; for some reason, if I try to smile with my mouth closed, my bottom lip protrudes unusually far fowards. I keep having visions of myself looking like Bubba from Forest Gump, so I brave it and flash my teeth! Helps that I have ceramics though, so I'm not as...

Hi Matty! Congrats on getting braced :D As to the Coke, try substituting to a non-sugar variety, like Diet or Zero. I drink entirely too much diet Coke, but always brush afterwards. If you don't want to substitute, I'd recommend making normal Coke a treat, and definitely stick with the straw plan!

Thanks all for your positive comments! Nice progress, jaynage. I am also at the 5 month mark but my teeth don't look nearly as straight as your's. Still waiting for a rotated upper incisor to turn before my ortho will do too much more. Powerchains are awesome, aren't they? Mine goes from last molar ...

Wow! They look great! It's amazing to see how much can happen in the first few months...I hope mine go so fast!!! How long does it take gaps to close? You said they were removed before treatment so you're at what, 6 mo. since? I may have to have 2 removed on the bottom. Good luck! I was a bit of a ...

Hi Luna! I understand what you are going through - I have had 3 adjustments so far, and each one I have found very painful. My ortho isn't rough at all, but my front teeth especially feel stressed to the limit when he attaches the archwire or powerchains. The last time I went in, he made a comment a...
