I will be getting elastics in a couple of weeks. Do you have to keep your mouth slightly open in order to keep the tension in the bands?

I've had a quad helix for 18 months, it never caused me to have a lisp, not even the day it was put on, but a lot of food does get stuck in it.

What is the difference between a quad-helix and a bi-helix?

I live in Britain so all my treatment (braces + jaw surgery) is free on the NHS.

If you get desperate I guess you could become a British citizen lol. :D

But it's only free if it's for medical rather than cosmetic reasons.

I was so happy that my jaw surgery was going to be before I went to university so that I c...

Sorry, by dentist I meant orthodontist.

Apparently it is because there is a 3mm gap between my two back molars on the lower jaw which needs to be closed before surgery, I guess he must have just overlooked it last time.

Absolutely gutted.

I suffer from a fairly big underbite and have had braces for the last 18 months, in September I will be going to university and was hoping to have had the surgery done by then so I could start afresh, it's so bloody hard not being able to smile people just think you are a miserable sod (my underbite...

Just dont eat spaghetti, it has a habit of wrapping around the expander at one end and the other end just dangles down your throat choking you until you can get your hand in there and rip it off, same goes for bacon rind. Hope this cheered you up  btw by the time mine comes off it will have be...

I have had one bit of wire digging away at my cheek for so long that it is no longer a problem. Where the skin was that it was cutting there is now just a big hole in my the side of my cheek where the offending bit of wire sits. :?

I know exactly how you feel, I'm so glad I have found this site as I have been looking for something like this for a while. People who don't have a problem don't realise what a massive social handicap it is not being able to smile. Well I first went to the orthodontist when I was 10, they refered me...
