I will be getting elastics in a couple of weeks. Do you have to keep your mouth slightly open in order to keep the tension in the bands?

I've had a quad helix for 18 months, it never caused me to have a lisp, not even the day it was put on, but a lot of food does get stuck in it.

I have had one bit of wire digging away at my cheek for so long that it is no longer a problem. Where the skin was that it was cutting there is now just a big hole in my the side of my cheek where the offending bit of wire sits.
