I have a female friend who had a lower advancement and she had her lower widened as well. She has always had a very strong (masculine) chin and was worried - long story short - her chin looks just the same as it did pre-op. I don't know how many mm she had moved though. Worst case for you, they repo...

I had SARPE one year ago and had no gum loss. I did have black triangles, but that is because my teeth are(were) triangle shaped - as they straighened out I had them shaved down a bit. It sounds to me like you need to get a few more opinions. It is very important to have your ortho and surgeon on th...

Re: Anyone get your braces off early?
My teeth are straight, and I really don't care if my bite is alligned. You may care later if it gives you trouble. I have a lot of pain in my jaw from having a poorly alligned bite for years. I have had braces and surgery to stop things from getting worse, but the damage can not be undone. At 40 I ...

Re: Orthognathic Surgery for Starters
And also, if I get surgery I may have a rhinoplasty as well because my nose is very large for my face and also has that bump on the upper portion, maybe from a previous fracture that I didnt know I had (football??? haha) ! You know....if you have bsso (lower pulled foward), then your nose will look...

For what it is worth....I have gone through 2+ years of braces (and surgery) with 4 temporary crowns. Two of those have had root canals. I have had no trouble at all. It did take a bit more work to get the brackets to stick, but the ortho used a little extra super glue and they have all stayed put. ...

I´m right there with you. I had SARPE in early April, and I still am numb on the roof of my mouth and gums...and have swelling. The swelling is always worse after an adjustment, so I hope some of this resolves itself when the braces come off. The Ortho says not to worry till the one year mark.........

Hi Guys - long time no see! I have been staying away( trying not to obsess) while waiting to see it I need surgery #2. The SARPE left me with an open bite (Nesnob), but it has closed nicely with elastics. The docs say it looks like I can avoid the other surgery as everything is functional, but I hav...

2 1/2 weeks is way too early to be worried. I am 6 months post op and I still have some swelling. Also, if you were to have a wee bit extra gum showing that may be a good thing - as we age the upper lip tends to droop down a bit. Give things more time to settle and then see how things look. If you a...

My daughter started early orthodontics as well (8). She has a much easier time adjusting than I do. I think that because they are still so nice and flexible it is less painful. I give my dd a kiddie Motrin before we go see the ortho, and I make sure she has one in her lunchbox in case she needs it d...

Hi Bigsis and welcome! I would guess that your doctor is thinking of doing SARPE. You can get a lot of expansion with SARPE and don't need any type of bone implant. With this type of surgery they fracture the bone and you open a palate expanter a bit each day - the bone fills the space in as you go....
