Especially if your concerns are not ortho per se, it might be advisable to have a consult with a speech pathologist. They are very well trained in issues of the mouth that affect speech, though not ortho, but it sounds like a consult would be in order anyway. If you are in the US, the web site (whic...

I'm confused. What do you mean by he was "acting that way?" Were there complications that kept him in the chair longer? Why did you miss your appointment? If you are in doubt of the time he was in the chair (not just sedated, but actually in the chair because that is time charged regardles...

Been there, done that. The "just use a mouthguard" to me is a complete cop out (and I have been told that, too), unless the only problems you are having are related to pain from clenching. It sounds like you have other structural/functional problems with your teeth that need correcting, an...

As I understand it, only linguals impact talking, as it is a function of the tongue hitting up against the back of the teeth, not the front. If you have any applicance on the inside of your teeth or upper teeth, then there might be an impact, but otherwise the biggest issue seems to be the rubbing o...

If dental insured (US), how did you get it?

I am amazed at how many people here have dental insurance (US). I don't, as I work for a small employer who doesn't even provide health insurance. Therefore, I was wondering: If you have dental insurance, is it through your/partner's/parent's employment? Does anyone have insurance that they buy dire...

I'm sorry, but something doesn't add up. If someone has been prescribed a bone-strengthening medication, it seems to me that they must have some endogenous bone disease (or cancer) - or they wouldn't have been prescribed the bone strengthening medication in the first place. Without a controlled, dou...

Did you ask to speak to the billing/finance manager for an explanation? Sometimes these problems can be cleared up with a simple phone call.

I don't understand why you'd go back under any circumstances for your tooth, as it sounds like the whole experience was pretty bad.

Generally the ortho will comment if s/he thinks there are perio problems prior to bracing. Also, is the dentist suggesting s/he do the "deep cleaning" or are they referring you to a periodontist.? I thought deep cleaning was about gum problems. I'd consult a perio before doing anything, or...

Bonjour, Not that I have a wealth of knowledge on wisdom teeth, but I have never heard of bracing wisdom teeth. That seems to imply that the ortho thinks they will be staying in, and most people wind up having them removed because they start to mess up the alignment and cause problems with the perma...

I am thankful this is described as a web site for "adults" with braces, because there's no way I would want children reading what has been written on this thread. I hesitate to think what children would think of the "adults" who advocate not to tease someone with a disability, to...

M Mouthwear website http://come.to/mouthwear BUT when I went there I was so bombarded with pop-up ads that I literally was never able to just see the web page. I don't have pop-up problems normally so I was quite certain it was the web site. I went back today and the exact same thing occurred. I'm t...

Probably the best answer would come from an ortho who could look at your mouth and make a determination based on theory and your specific situation. My question - why do you want a palate expander? Usually it is part of the "orthodontic big picture". I'm not quite sure why someone would wa...

I don't know what kind of brackets you have, but that is one of the perils of putting ceramics on lower teeth. The ceramics are bigger and often the upper teeth do wind up hitting the top of the lower bracket. Although I'm not a dentist, I think you should call your ortho as soon as possible. As I s...

Regarding US dental tx- Unless you have insurance (maybe 25% do, I don't) here are some rough figures: regular cleaning - around $100 or more if xrays filling - b/w $125-175 crown, root canal - $1500 each implant - I've heard 2,000 but I can't face it yet Ortho runs about $4000-$7000 depending on wh...
