Welcome, and a word of advice: When extractions are involved (or not, but especially if they are) it is important to get at least 1, and maybe 2 other opinions. Orthos vary in their opinions and procedures, and it might be worth your while to get other opinions before making a big decision. If you'v...

If your ortho is like most, they will "always be running late" (not all, but most). What about putting your concerns in writing, as that generally gets people's attention moreso than someone "complaining" as us patients are often assumed to be. If you really want to send a messag...

Let me explain the nature of my question about retention. One of fhe Damon's big "sell" is that patients don't need extractions. True. In fact, on their web site they extol the virtue of Damons in effectuating palate expansion: (quote from web site) "This case was treated using the Da...

Bearing in mind I have absolutely no dental/ortho training, this is what came to mind: Can you make an appointment with an oral surgeon just to discuss options? Oral surgeons are used to matters of reconfiguring facial structure through dentistry whereas the orthos are pretty much limited to moving ...

I have called Ormco (Damon's parent company) directly and found that people were more than willing to talk to me, and I clearly identified myself as a patient and not an ortho. Ormco's general phone number is 800-854-1741 and their hours are 6:00 am to 5:00 pm Pacific Time, US. Their web site (www.o...

Since I don't have invisalign, I can't speak from experience, but my vote is to just call the ortho/dentist tomorrow and ask. Why wait and keep worrying?

All the CVSs in my area sell orthodontic wax - generally the G-U-M mint flavor.

I had Damon 3's and had no problems with closing lips, lips sticking out, or anything like that. The Damon's may "stick out" more but the difference is absolutely tiny, very tiny, relative to "conventional" braces. I had never heard they were supposed to stick out more, so I wasn...

For the record, rubber recycling is very common. I was reading about a company in The Netherlands which has been doing it for 5 years and is very environmentally friendly. Certainly an elastic could not be used intact after it had been in someone's mouth, but there is no reason it could not be melte...

IMHO, go to an oral surgeon for the extractions. They are specially trained in surgical procedures in the mouth (thus oral surgeon) whereas general dentists are not. Most people when their wisdom teeth are extracted are looking at pretty complicated procedures because generally wisdom teeth have not...

Like orthos don't reuse brackets...get real, they do.

See the following web page:

www.orthocycle.com/ortho-reuse/ortho-reuse.htm

or just google "reuse orthodontic brackets" and see entry after entry indicating that this is a common practice.

I don't know the term "stalk" but are you saying the orthos re-use ligs , or sterilize them if the package they came in has already been opened but the actual lig has not been used. It's one thing to sterilize the ligs if a package has been opened, but I'm not particularly keen on re-using...

Washington DC (and suburbs) aren't exactly immune from pressures relating to appearance, so I'm pretty used to an extreme focus on how a person looks, including their teeth. For me it is a matter of choosing to work, live, and play with people who have found happiness outside of physical features. T...
