An ortho is the best one to advise on whether braces would be clinically necessary, or primarily aesthetic. Most people get at least 2 or 3 consultations because orthos are very different in how they perceive problems and try/try not to pressure you. Anyway, most othos do consults for free so it can...

I know very little about ortho hardware, but I have gone to the web site: ortho-byte.com They are an on-line supplier of orthdontic supplies of every possilbe variation (including a huge section on wires). Maybe their listing of the wires they carry for sale to orthos will include something that &qu...

Why don't you ask for a team meeting with the ortho, the instructor, and yourself. If the instructor is the decisionmaker, then it sounds like the three of you need to talk, and as the leader of your treatment team, I would hope the school would make him available to you.

I imagine your ortho would be of help in making the decision, because s/he may be uncomfortable with you so far away if an emergency came up and you couldn't get seen quickly. They probably don't want to lose you as a patient, but my guess would be they would be OK for the routine visits, but there'...

This post finally helped me figure out why I seemed to be "at odds" with the general opinion here. It hit me when I saw flowertowngal's great closing to her post - "Straight teeth - priceless". The light bulb went off - straight, white teeth simply aren't a priority for me as I t...

Kiwi- I understand the need to be thick skinned, but where is the line between being thick skinned and being accused of making a post where I "am" thinking someone stupid? Name calling is one thing, and challenging my opinion is welcomed, but actually making statements where I am accused o...

I think one of the major hassles with elastics was never having them in the right room at the right time.. In my mind I wanted to configure brackets or archwires so we could hook a "spare" set of elastics somewhere in the mouth where it was't using force, so there would always be a set of ...

For braces round one, 4 premolars followed by 4 wisdom teeth after-the-fact. (teenager) For upcoming braces round two, 1 incisor, which I truly hope can be extracted after braces are on because I don't cherish the idea of running around having a missing incisor with no braces to cover. Unfortunately...

Generally I think issues between two people should be handled off-line, but in this case I am asking for assistance from the forum. Twice now (within 3 days), someone responding to my posts (responding the their post) has asserted that I 1) "treat them as stupid" or 2) I must "judge t...

Maybe you could talk to the ortho about special ordering some ligs if you have a preference. I suggest that as opposed to buying them and bringing them in because: 1) The ortho has liability issues in terms of treatment. They should only treat you with materials/hardware that they know for sure wher...

Having had extractions from a "regular" dentist and an oral surgeon - there is no comparison - the oral surgeon wins hands down. They have specialized training in techniques for extractions and other surgeries that regular dentists don't. I can honestly say that on my molar extraction the ...

I hope this doesn't depress you... I was told to expect elastics on the 3rd adjustment and to expect to have them on an ongoing basis for the full 18 months. I think a lot depends on what the ortho is using them for; for me the issue is having "no bite" (neither over nor under) but my teet...

I had an interesting appointment with my ortho - he just got through answering my query about eventual chances of relapse, based on the way he was treating my deep bite. He moved on to the next chair where there was a little slip of a girl all on her own, and he said something like "I'm not go...
