Zou, I am also a lawyer and will be having a Le Fort I done on December 4, just a little before you. My surgeon told me that I shouldn't plan on returning to work for at least 4 weeks because talking may be difficult. Also, I don't know about you, but I will be wired shut for at least 3-4 weeks, it ...

Thanks for all of the replies. Smile 2006, I am definitely using an in-network doctor; my insurance sent me to his office, and by the way my co-pay should be $50 if it's outpatient, and $100 if it's inpatient. Meryaten, I too was told that the model surgery would not be covered, but should that be c...

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed; any advice?

I was so excited a few days ago, I finally received my authorization for surgery. I will be having a segmented Le Fort I. All was well until I met with my surgeon yesterday. We're finally finalizing everything, and before I go in to meet the surgeon, the office manager says to me by the way, your in...

Don't know if this helps, but I am supposed to have surgery (to correct an open bite and cross bite) in early November, and my surgeon will be shaving two of my crowns at that time. I specifically asked whether this meant that I would have to have them re-done, and he said no, that this was not a pr...

I have a few crowns and a bridge, and it has turned out to be a possible problem. I am supposed to be having surgery soon to correct an open bite and cross bite, but the surgeon thinks that he will have to shave down one of my crowns to fix the bite. Now I'm being told that I should have waited to h...

I'm hoping you don't have too many problems. I had an expander for a few months, and it was terrible. When I had the expander, I had a really hard time holding my saliva; I'm sorry I know that sounds gross, and it was. It definitely improved with time or I became used to it, who knows. Good luck!

I do think it's normal for the gap to close once you stop turning the key. I too have a palate expander, but I'm not done turning the key yet. You'll know for sure tomorrow when you ask your orthodontist, so try not to worry about it. Good luck.

anotherbraveface: I am 31 years old, and recently started wearing an upper expander to make room in my mouth, and to correct a cross bite. Initially, I was told that I would have to have two of my upper teeth removed, but then my oral surgeon decided that a palate expander was a better choice, since...

I'm not sure if this helps you any, but I have an open bite and a cross bite, and I do have a bit of a lisp and a slight problem with some words. My ortho told me that this was definitely due to my bite problems. I'm hoping all is going to be corrected once my braces come off, and I have surgery. Go...

I used to get canker sores a lot, but I have been fotunate and have only had one since my braces went on (3/30). I have been using biotene toothpaste off and on, and that seemed to help a lot. I'm not kidding, at one point I could have as many as 4-5 canker sores at the same time, but now I rarely g...

I have an open bite and a cross bite, and right now I'm starting to feel a little overwhelmed with the thought of surgery. I just got my braces on 4/6, and I'm supposed to be having surgery on my upper jaw in about a year. My ortho also told me that I will need to have two teeth extracted right befo...

I had my brackets and spacers put in on March 30th, and I was wired on April 6th. I am doing remarkably well. I'm very surprised. I'm prone to canker sores and was very worried about that, but I've had one and it wasn't too bad. I am completely pain free, and experienced only mild discomfort on day ...
