Removal pain
My removal process (last month) was the most painful part of all. I had ceramic brackets and several sensitive teeth, so the pulling, popping, and grinding was very painful. I was in tears, and the assistant had to stop several times to give me a break from it. I felt like such a wimp as a full-grow...

Update
At KK's advice, I called my ortho this morning, and they had a cancellation and allowed me to come in right away. I just got back and thought I'd let everyone know how it went. As is often the case, I was getting too worked up. She said it was not uncommon to cut off the back hooks of my type of upp...

Not too bad
I have both upper and lower Hawleys, and they haven't been too bad to get used to in terms of having them in my mouth. The lisp only lasted a couple of days, and now I sound normal again.

Band spaces
I have this same problem after debanding last month, and I think the back hook on my lower Hawley retainer is jamming between these teeth and making it worse. I see my ortho tomorrow, and will report what she says about it.

Hawley retainer didn't fit, ortho cut off hooks!?!
Hi, everyone, After 2 and 1/2 years, I am finally out of braces as of last month. My molds for retainers were taken a month before the braces came off, and the ortho had me in rubber bands during that time, too. As a result, my upper Hawley retainer didn't fit at all. The ortho told her assistant &q...

Good news!
Hi again, everyone, I had to make an unexpected trip to the ortho this morning to replace a lig that had snapped. They replaced all my ligs, and I asked for pink - this is the first time in 18 months that I asked for a color, so the technicians all joked with me about stepping out of my "silver...

Hi, Chris, Thanks for your response. My teeth do touch in the back and always have, and fit together pretty well back there according to my ortho, but they don't fit together correctly in the front. My lower arch is on the small side, so my lower teeth don't come forward quite far enough, while my u...

Hi, thanks for such a quick response. It is food for thought. My primary reason for starting this journey was to correct my overjet/overbite. Even though neither is huge, when I smile, I can't see any bottom teeth, so even though all my teeth are straight, my smile still looks like I have a bit of a...

Fixing overbite sans surgery or extractions?
Hi all, I'm having some overbite frustration, and am thrilled to have found this site. I'm 33, and I've been in braces for about 18 months. My teeth were pretty straight to begin with - no crowding, no crooked teeth, but I consulted the ortho about my overbite, grinding teeth (for which I've always ...
