For me, my retainers feel a little tight when they go in, and then feel fine less than five minutes later.

Exactly the same here ... I have a tooth on the bottom that I'm SURE wants to move back!

Is it odd that I was told to wear my retainers 24-7 for only 2 weeks (and after that at night only)?

I can't pretend I know what is happening either but I know that you've worked hard for a bottom arch to be proud of and I can understand your concern.
