How long after expansion (SARPE) does the ortho start to close the spaces?
That is, once the expansion is complete, do you have this big gap for a month, six months, a year?

Thanks
Brandy, This is my second ortho. You know all about my first one. Now I am getting frustrated with my second one, and I am beginning to feel like I am either the world's worst patient or the world's unluckiest one. Before I start whinging at the new one, I want to get my facts straight. This ortho n...

A quick question
How did your ortho close the spaces following the expansion? Could as many of you reply as possible so I get a sense of the "standard procedure". The reason that I ask is that my ortho is closing the spaces tooth by tooth, whereas in many of the postings you talk about your ortho using a &...

Curious
Hi All, I am curious, after reading the posts on this forum for the past few months, it appears that the average time for the complete process is 1 to 1 and 1/2 years. Is that about right. Also, does anyone know of a good site (apart from this one) that has case studies for RPE and detailed technica...

Chopchop, I think everyone's experience is slightly different. The only thing that seems common to all is that most people are happy with the end result. I turned the key on the rpe twice in the morning and twice in the evening for 15 days. The gap appeared on day one, and got LARGE. I am not sure w...

4beauty4symmetry, Eating was never really a problem for me (except after the op, obviously) but the expander didn't interfere with my eating. I presume that the saliva response has to do with the shape of your palate. Also, I felt that my expander didn't fit very well, it was far from my palate ... ...

Saliva
4beauty4symmetry, The oral leakage was something that caught me by surprise. I wasn't really prepared for it (i.e. I wasn't warned), which made it seem worse. After a few weeks it went, all that was left was a slight speech impediment. It really differs from person how quickly you adjust. If you rea...

Jean, I didn't have a gag-reflex, I had oceans of saliva in my mouth and washed everybody who I spoke to (I am a professor, so it was not convenient when lecturing) but that went away after a few weeks. Also, don't worry your appetite and ability to eat will return. If it is a necessary procedure, g...

Thank you Brandy
Brandy, I haven't written in a while and now that I am writing I don't know where to begin. First of all, I would like to thank you!!! BIG TIME!!! I got a second opinion from 4 different orthos and they all agreed that my ortho was not up to scratch (it was a funny experience looking back on it - on...

Hi All, I was in holiday in Europe and visited an orthodontist - fun way to spend part of your holiday :? They told me that my orthodontist was not following standard practice (i.e. my ortho began to close the gap 5 months (yes that says FIVE MONTHS) after the expansion finished. Also, that there is...

Kballing, I am in a similar position as you. I need to change ortho too (and like you, the ortho is a nice person - they just keep changing their mind about things without explanation and it is dragging on - they said that I need the expander in for another 6 months, that is TWELVE in total but coul...
