You will eat again! My mainstays were mac n cheese and ice cream. Not the healthiest, but I also threw in oatmeal, apple sauce, yogurt, smoothies (frozen fruit, yogurt, banana, soymilk and protein powder in a blender), refried beans -- in fact if they have them in your area, Amy's frozen mexican din...

Proud: 1. To be actually doing this after I looked in the mirror for way too many years watching my teeth get wonkier and wonkier. 2. To have found this board and learned about what I am doing to myself. Not so proud: 1. That this is the second time around because I didn't wear my retainers the firs...

Restaurants and rhetorical questions

I've finally reached the point where I have enough courage to venture out and eat in public and I have just one question: why is it that people you know just happen to pass by your table to stop to chat just after you take that last bite and are trying to surriptiously dig the remnents of the meal o...

Welcome to the club! I can of course only speak for my experience since everyone is different. I've had braces for a couple of months now, so far just on the top and two bands on the bottom. He banded all the molars at once, but I'm waiting till the end of this month to get the brackets and archwire...

This board has been awesome for learning everything about braces. I talked yesterday with a woman who just got her braces off a few months ago and I was explaining to her how the archwires do the work. She wore braces for 2 1/2 years and had no idea how they worked! And I certainly wouldn't either i...

First it's the waterpik to shoot all that gunk out after a meal, then a couple of minutes with a Braun electric and Arm&Hammer toothpaste with baking soda and peroxide (nothing works quite as good for me), then floss and a finish with Act floride rinse.

Just a word on retainers. I'm back for a second round because I diidn't keep wearing my retainers after the first time. I probably did for a couple of years, at night mostly, then went off to college and lost them. So my advice is to plan on a permanent retainer or on wearing retainers for a while, ...

I had no idea that orthos could do extractions, but since they are fully trained dentists before they go on for additional orthodontic training, I suppose there's no reason they can't. The dentists may have lobbied to keep them from being able to, though. It's all usually set by the state Dental Boa...

Welcome aboard, Claire! I have found that sometimes I do lisp or mispronounce words because my tongue or lips get stuck, though I think I'm the only one that hears it. Other people tell me they don't notice a thing. Like KK says, keeping hydrated helps. Lots of lip gloss, too! The crazy part is that...

I was thinking about this post and though this probably won't apply to most people, I thought I'd put it out there. I used to be really skinny too in my teens and 20s and always hated the way I looked (and how impossible it was to find business attire that fit!) I was a picky eater, plus whenever I ...

Unfortunately, I can't give you a London recommendation, but I can give you a thumbs up to go ahead and do braces now if you can. The longer you wait, the less time you'll have to enjoy your new smile. Braces are quite common on adults now and the only comments I've received from people have been po...

Hang in there -- it will get better! I'm 3 1/2 weeks in and just had a piece of pizza -- cut with a fork into smaller bites, of course -- but pizza, crust and all, nonetheless! I lived on oatmeal, mac n cheese, ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese apple sauce and smoothies for the first couple ...
