get 2nd opinion

My doc 12 yrs ago told me that I had to get rid of section of tissue between my 2 front teeth to close the gap....so my parents said NO WAY. My current ortho said that he didn't think the surgery worked then and he doesn't think it works now, so he doesn't recommend the surgery at all. I'd check aro...

I'm glad somebody else wonders the exact same thing. Why don't dentist like them, especially if they're not infected or bothering the patient?

I hope to keep mine as long as possible!

Each person has a different experience, but hey if you're in no pain you might be passed the worst of it. When I had my powerchain applied, I had a VERY sore tooth...so applying the chain was excruciating; but after the chain was on I was fine. Biting into foods took a while, but I wasn't needing an...

thanks

Before I got my braces on, I read almost every story from "My first day in braces" and it really prepared me for exactly what was going to happen. Also getting questions answered from 'old pros' has been wonderful!!! (Also getting some sympathy hasn't hurt too) Thank you so much for this w...

Yeah spaces are the worst. I'd rather deal with the braces any day than rather deal with another spacer again. My advice...pain killers, soft foods, and don't rip them out...and most important try to ignore them. If you keep on bothering them, you'll just drive yourself even crazier. It is possible ...

overwax

Have you tried overwaxing at night? Just cover them all up I find that most problems tend to pop up overnight depending on how I sleep and my lips/cheeks get pushed into my braces making sores the next morning. I don't know if you've got a Wal-Mart but they've got great mint-flavored wax, it works g...

wax use

I know exactly what you're going through...I used so much wax when my braces were first on. It was the 2nd week before I could survive without wax. But leaving it on and "brushing around" was the easy way out, but as with most easy was it's not good for me. For the most desparate places, I...

full ceramic

I've got 100% ceramic. I was told in the beginning that I would only get the "social 6" ceramic, but when the tech asked me what I wanted (metal or ceramic) I just said ceramic. So she put all ceramic on. I'm pleased with them. I tend to smile really big (and my mouth is small), so I'm gla...

Maybe you should talk to your doc...he may have learned a different strategy of correcting teeth...not every ortho does it the same way. Also I've noticed on some posts that teeth get worse in places before they get better all over. Take a list of questions to ask so you don't forget. And if you don...

I haven't heard about adults over flouride'ing, but kids can! My kids' pediatrician told me that his daughter now has black marks permantly on her teeth because she ate toothpaste a lot when she was little. I would ask your doc to make sure. If you read your toothpaste or mouthwash bottle it will sa...

thanks!

Thanks again to everyone. The chains are doing much better. I did (kind of cheat) put the powerchain on completely.. I just took my dental threader and floss and just pulled the powerchain onto the other side of the bracket. It hurt again, but nothing like it was last time. It's great to see the mov...

Reply to fins...no the ortho didn't check after tech put them on. I didn't realize they weren't all the whole way till I was in the car. The pain is/was too bad to even consider going back up there for a few days KK...thanks for the encouragement. I do agree powerchains do work quickly. I can alread...

Welcome :)

Paws, Hey welcome to the braces club! I recently got my braces on after 12 years of waiting. I'm very glad I got them and yes...I'm back on solid foods. I chose ceramic braces because I am conscientous about my smile. I've had a huge gap all my life, and finally got used to it, but I wanted it GONE....
