phosphorous in carbonated water may increase bone fractures

Besides the sugar problems with sodas on teeth, I have read in books from the Prevention magazine folks that there is a study linking the phosphorous in even plain carbonated water with an increase in bone fractures after age 40, essentially affecting your bone mass, weakening your bones. That would...

Take L-Lysine, an amino acid--great to prevent canker sores

I used to get canker sores in my mouth as a kid, but don't now, ever since I learned to take the amino acid L-Lysine at the first sign of one. I take some just for for prevention even if I have bitten or been injured inside my mouth, since that sort of thing used to become a canker sore in the past-...

sounds like a rational for rationed health care to me...

Not to be cynical, but it sounds to me like someone may have wanted to find a rationalization to justify rationing the braces health care pounds/Euros/dollars. How can they possibly assess what difference it made to someone's personal self-esteem, when it's impossible to compare it to what that indi...

overbite & molar contact problems

I can definitely empathize. I have an overbite problem also, and my ortho put two little "turbos" behind my front teeth that bump against the tops of my lower two, to stop the uppers from breaking off the lower brackets. It makes it so none of my teeth have contact except the two front one...

Thanks, guys!

Thanks for the correct link, bigger photo and encouragement! Sorry I didn't know how to do it right the first time. The "How Do I..." section of this site gave some directions for taking your own photos with a mirror, which gave us the best photo results--actually better than my spouse tak...

photo needs fixing...sorry!

I just clicked on the link and for some reason the photo is not right--it cut off the right side of it. I'll have to get my spouse to trouble shoot it later. He told it to make it a certain size, and I guess that messed it up. Looked fine on the site initially, so I'm not sure how to fix it. Any adv...

Self Ligating GAC In-Ovation-Clear braces photo

Hooray! I finally got my GAC In-Ovation-Clear self-ligating braces on four days ago, and here's what they look like over at imageshack.com : http://reg.imageshack.us/setlogin.php?login=63cc817ba61c1aca275e32d1d1859c0a (If the link doesn't work, let me know. I'm a novice at this online photo stuff.) ...

Getting braces in the morning--Innovation-C's, self-ligating

Well, I'm finally getting my braces on tomorrow, after putting it off for years. If I can get my spouse to tell me how to put up photos on this site, I'll try to post a photo of what they look like, as requested. They will be the new self-ligating clear brackets called Innovation-C by GAC. The ortho...

palate expanders

My daughter had a palate expander at 13, and it worked great for her--she's got a nice broad palate now, and didn't need any teeth pulled with the braces. She was afraid of it at first, too, and definitely didn't enjoy it, but it was worth the hassle. Another kid we know had one about 13-14 and did ...

Thanks for the replies!

Thanks for all the interesting replies. I don't know if NeoClips are the same thing as these new clear ones--I haven't heard that term used by anyone here. I know these new clear ones are not the usual ceramic clear type (Ice, Mystique, etc.), and no elastics are needed, but am not sure what they ar...

Best Dentakit refills to order in advance?

What refills are most likely to be needed for the Dentakit? Not having any experience with any of the items, I don't know which are most useful or hardest to find individually at local drug stores, etc., and thought it might be best to go ahead and order some when getting the initial kit. I haven't ...
