Hey loulou I sympathise with you, at my first post-chop app. with the surgeon I told him that my upper midline seemed to be pretty off. He took a look and declared that everything was going fine. Sent me home with rather tight elastics aimed at aligning my lower midline with the top. As it happened ...

I have an annoying thread up under my top lip, I'm assuming it is the remains of my stitches. I'm over a year post chop!

I think most of mine came out within the first month though. Just be gentle and rinse well with antiseptic mouthwash.:-1

I know what you mean about both sides being different. It gives a new twist on being two-faced and I still haven't decided which is my best side yet!!! :-*

All the best. :-1

Hi Before debanding I was also in elastics to try and bring my molars together. It did work, but unfortunately after a couple of months in double Essix they have gone back up again and I have cracked the top one through clenching! My bite is now open, from wisdom tooth to wisdom tooth, as the...

Meryaten that's what I was thinking. I spent months in really tight restrictive bands to extrude my molars, because my bite was open to my wisdom teeth. But now after a few months in essix I'm back at the same place! My wisdom teeth are not included in the retainer so I guess I have clenched ...

I possibly do work 'em at night aswell, I just don't notice so much, I breath through my mouth at night so it's usually open anyway.  The Ortho mentioned a different type of retainer when he took my moulds, I didn't recognize the name but he'd completely forgot a few hours later when he ...

Hi Chris Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I only clench my teeth when I'm awake and only realise I'm doing it when the pain kicks in! One Ortho called it the "Rowntree's effect" gotta chew, gotta chew!! I'll see what my Ortho says but I hope I don't have to get a new one ev...

Essix cracked. How long should they last?

Hi
I've had my essix retainers for almost six months now. The upper one has been cracked over the right molar for the past couple of months. Due to clenching I think! My next appointment should be in July, but I'm still awaiting a date.
So just how long should these things last? :Questions:

I've had an essix since December and the molars my Ortho spent months extruding have now completely relapsed.
So no, essix can't hold down teeth if they want to go back up.
Let your Ortho know your concerns.

All the best!

I had surgery to try and correct my openbite and yes it can change your nose. You should bring up your concerns next time you see the surgeon. They would probably fix it if you really don't like the result post-surgery. You can only ask! freerideuk, so how's the new snuffler then, hope it's h...

Sounds like what I had, to see if my condylar was still growing, only I didn't know that 'til after they got the results proving it was still active! But the opposite of your as mines was regenerating not degenerating! The test is fine but you do have to lie still for a long time while the ma...
