The end of my wire has started to poke out a bit and prod into my cheek. It is killing me but I am using it as a test. I'm putting wax on it to keep it off my cheek. It is a struggle but anyway my mouth is feeling quite sore, i'm learing to cope. It is a good test.

People's reaction

I've had my upper braces for about four days now and have been very surprised by the reaction I've had from people. Firstly, I spoke to a friend at work about it and she was very strange, saying she was disappointed in me for being so fixated on my appearance. I couldn't really understand where she ...

My biggest vice used to be crisps. I just couldn't resist them. I can't eat them now which is great! I also can't bite my nails which is another bad habit nipped in the bud. Getting braces was the healthiest thing I ever did!

OK, so I have them on and I have brand spanking new white brackets that are self-ligating. I guess this means I can crack open a bottle of red without a care in the world. And I can head to starbucks first thing too!

Hey, I got my uppers on today and am the same as you. I didn't taste anything nasty although my ortho warned me several times. At first I was thinking this will be easy, but now, 12 hours on I am starting to feel the pressure. I imagine I might be sore tomorrow!

Drinks to avoid?

It is my last night without braces so I went for a nice steak and some good red wine. I also had about four cups of coffee this morning. I think I have been losing sleep recently through fear! Anyway, my question is, what drinks do I have to avoid with braces to make sure they don't stain? Are red w...

need extractions?

I have an overbite and my lower teeth have crept forward over the years to compensate. So I am getting braces (uppers on tomorrow) and having surgery further down the line. I am concerned that my ortho has suggested going ahead without extractions, but I just cannot see where my teeth are going move...

I am 29 and getting my uppers tomorrow. I was worried about being too old for it and so it is great to hear stories of people in their 50s doing it. I know I will look back in 20 years time and be so glad I did it. If I back out now I will look back in 20 years time and just be gutted. Let's get on ...

It's mine turn tomorrow morning, so in approx 12 hours time I will be coming out of the surgery into the sunshine beaming from ear to ear. Maybe! I've booked the next three days off work to acclimatise, but if I feel ok I might face it Thursday.

Hello again, an update! So I spent the weekend with my mum and sister and for some reason just couldn't tell them! Anyway, I'm just gonna get the damned things on on Wednesday and see everyone cold! As you all have said, my family will be supportive and noone else will notice. That's what I'm bankin...

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I think I will tell my close family this weekend, so they know to expect it when they see me otherwise it'll be really awkward! Everyone else will just have to wait and see (literally!).

Thanks,
Rob

One week to go...

Hi all I'm a 29 year old fella living in London, UK, and finally I've decided it is time for me to get braces. The uppers are going on next Wednesday and I am incredibly nervous. I really needed to send this note because this is something I have kept completely to myself. I haven't told any member o...

recommendations?

Thanks for your comments. Made me realise that I should ask if anyone who has had braces in London has a recommendation, preferrably in the south west (fulham/putney)?

Advice and encouragement needed...

Hi all What a fantastic website! I am a 29 year old male living and working in London. I have awful buck teeth and am desperate to get them fixed but nervous as hell about the thought of wearing braces for two years or more. I really want to get it done, but I guess I need to hear from people, who a...
