Congratulations on taking the pluge. I did it myself one month ago at the age of 45. I too was very worried about what I was going to eat. It turns out that after the first week that I can eat just about anything and my diet is very normal. I even have bite turbos, which cause additonal problems wit...

I also have thin lips and like the little extra bit of lips the braces cause. I'm also hoping that my lips stay this way. Additonally, since having braces my lipstick no longer gets all over my "snaggle tooth"!! Two little bright spots on the braces journey!

Glad your first adjustment went well. Since I have bite turbos myself, I would love to know how they get them off! Hopefully in 10 weeks you can let me know. I've only been braced for about three weeks now so I will have my turbos well after yours are gone.

Welcome! I have bite turbos also and agree that they are no fun. I've only have my braces for a couple of weeks, but will be very glad when the turbos come off (3 to 6 months, hopefully!).

I'm 45 and I got braced 9 days ago! Glad your teeth are making some progress. I am amazed that my teeth have also started to move. Just a tiny bit, but some definite movement. I too wondered if movement would take forever because of my age, but it seems our teeth are willing to cooperate at any age.

Thanks to all for the tips! I'm really looing forward to my day of kayaking. Now all I have to do is figure out what to bring for lunch since my options are still limited with my bite turbos :D. Maybe a cup of yogurt and nice soft cheese sandwitch.

into the wilderness

Next week I’m going on a day long kayaking trip with a group. I’ll have only been braced for two weeks, so this will be my first wilderness outing. Has anyone had any experience with after lunch cleanup with no facilities? I plan to do a lot of swishing with water and bring a small mirror so I c...

Congratulations Stephy! I've only had by bite turbos for two days and cannot wait to get them off. I'm glad you only had four weeks. My estimated time is three to six months. Unlike Chris, my bite turbos are ceramic rather than metal. Ortho took nice pictures of them to show to his class at the univ...

braced with bite turbos for 24 hours

I’ve had my braces and bite turbos for 24 hours now and so for so good. Ortho The ortho office was wonderful. Everyone was very friendly and professional. Questions were encouraged and answered. Two of the women who worked there had braces as adults and offered me advice and encouragement. The Pro...

Thanks for all the encouragement! I'm very glad to hear that bite turbos can be tolerable over time. I'll post after the big event tomorrow. I have my lip balm and am ready to go.

I even stopped on the way to work for a bagel. No more biting into hard bread for awhile.

getting braced at 45

Hi to all: I am getting braced on Wednesday and am scared and excited all at the same time. My dentist finally talked me into getting my teeth fixed since my teeth have moved significantly over the last five years. My little bit crooked teeth have become very crooked teeth. I have to admit that I am...
