I just wanted to add another view. I actually hired a woman about your age who had braces a few years ago. This was before I was seriously considering braces. I noticed that she had braces, but didn't give her braces any consideration either negative or positive. The job was an internship in politic...

I had bite turbos . My bottom teeth hit the turbos and my top teeth were completely prevented from hitting my bottom brackets. When mine were first put on my ortho had to adjust them a bit. But he made sure they were in the correct position before I left the office. I would definitely talk to your o...

After the first day with the turbos I thought I would be eating mac & cheese for 6 months. However, very soon I was able to eat almost normally. I was amazed how well I learned to eat, chew, and talk with the turbos on. Unfortunately, my adjustment included a new wire and the bracketing of my se...

Bite turbos gone!

I had my second adjustment this week and my ortho removed my bite turbos!!!! It is so wonderful to have them out of my mouth. :D :D :D He snapped the turbos off with what looked like a small pair of pliers. There was minimal pain, but the loud cracking noise was no fun, since it sounded like my teet...

I have an overbite and an overjet. My brackets are very low on my bottom teeth and I also have bite turbos behind my front teeth to keep me from bitting off my lower brackets.

Mine are also working nicely in their low positon!

Thanks for the responses. I will let you know if they come out at my first adjustment. And, if not, why I still need them.

I too am amazed that I have gotten used to them. But it still would be nice to have them out and not bang my tongue on them all day long!

bite turbos - when can they be removed

I have bite turbos. I will have my first adjustment at 12 weeks. I’ve been braced for 8 weeks now. Already my molars are touching and will probably be even more so in another month. Will my ortho likely remove the turbos at my first adjustment since my molars are touching? Is there any other reaso...

Pam: I'm glad to read your post. My teeth are also less sensitive since being braced. Very odd, but before being braced my teeth tended to be very sensitive to cold. Now I too can brush with cold water with not problem.

Gracie: You can get more wax from your local pharmacy or from DentaKit. Also, some orthos will give you more if you ask. I have been braced for seven weeks and still find that I need a bit of wax here and there. I will go for a few days, think everything is fine -- no more wax -- then my teeth move ...

swimming and braces

Before being braced I had taken a rather lengthy break in my swimming due to some health issues. Fortunately, I’m fine now and have started swimming again. I am amazed at how dry my mouth is after my workouts! It seems that my wires and brackets just stick to the inside of my mouth when I get out ...

I'm in the turbo club too, only mine are composite rather than metal. When I first got mine my tongue hurt, I lisped, and could hardly chew. Things are so much better now!! I can eat just about any thing and my tongue no longer hurts. So hang in there and it will get better -- not wonderful, but tol...

I normally don't chew gum, but in the last two weeks before I got braced I chewed it every day or so. I guess it was just the knowledge that I could not have it for a year or two!!

Good news on your tooth movement. I've also been braced for about four weeks and am amazed at the amount of movement I've had so far.
