I didn't need braces when I was a teeenager as my teeth were straighter then. It wasn't until my 20s that my dentist suggested it might be good to straighten them to help me clean them (I also had bad gums at the time). I didn't want to get them when I was single - so it wasn't until I was in a stab...

Hippyhippo You are going through the same stuff as me. My teeth had moved within one week too. My two front teeth are crossed over and they've move enough that there is a little gap at the top now (still crossed the bottom of them though). The annoying thing about that is sometimes when I speak a l...

I wanna join this brace buddy club too please! I got my braces on August 10th and the first two weeks were awful but I'm getting used to it now. I have to have surgery after a year to move my lower jaw forward. I'm a 32yr old kiwi and love this forum - its so nice to know I'm not alone. hippyhippo -...

They look great - congrats. Very similar to mine and only two weeks behind me so we I shall follow your progress with interest. I'll get some photos loaded soon and let you know.

Start the salt water rinses - thats the best advice I got!

I had spacers for one week and hated every minute of it. Distraction is the key - keep busy to stop thinking about it. Eat soft foods and have protein shakes if the chewing gets too painful - I couldn't bit down from day 2 of the spacers. It did ease a bit after a few more days but still felt horrib...

Congratulations :rawk: - being engaged is the best feeling ever! I'm also 32 and been married since November and have had braces on for 2 weeks now. I started investigating braces before we got engaged and my ortho is a friend of ours so at our engagement party he said "what do you want to do a...

Good luck and look forward to the pictures. You're teeth are very similar to mine and I've only had my braces on for 2 weeks and my two front teeth have already moved a bit. I went into shock when my braces went on but I'm starting to get used to them now. I'm impressed with your photo skills, I tri...

I agree with the others - smile naturally, showing your teeth. Its better to have a nice confident happy smile with braces than to look self conscious and awkward closing your mouth. I just went through a similar thing - I'm in the musical Beauty and the Beast and we had our photos taken for the pro...

I'm enjoying intstant noodles with tuna and mayo right now! Risotto is also good. And I agree refried beans are great too! Anything like that you can just spoon in behind your teeth and suck it down!

Yes it is interesting especially as I know I have vikings in my family tree (in fact my brother has long red hair and definitely looks like a viking!!). I have an overbite with a weak lower jaw which although technically doesn't need correcting, my ortho and surgeon think I would be really unhappy i...

As well as painkillers, my ortho recommend ice cold drinks and ice cream for pain. Apparently the wire softens when cold which eases the tension. I find a tall glass of gin and tonic with lots of ice is the best remedy!! Good luck and definitely do the salt water washes too. I've had my braces on a ...

Thanks Meryaten ! It really does help to hear from people that have been through the same thing. Yes the surgery sounds the same. They also said they could move my upper jaw upwards so I wouldn't show so much teeth/gums - I show a bit more than the 'average' apparently but its not that bad and doesn...
