When the elastics were irritating my cheek I put lots of wax on the backets were the elastics were placed to make my cheek pull away to create a gap. I had to do that for about a week until my cheek healed. The downside to that is drooling from that side.

I think it was around the 6 month mark that I finally started getting use to my braces. Though everytime I have an adjustment there will be anywhere from 1 day to a week of discomfort depending on what was done with the adjustment. My braces have been on for 14 months. Hopefully it will get better f...

I had one tooth reshaped after I had my braces for 11 months. It was chipped and he did a minor reshaping. He plans to do a complete cosmetic reshaping after my teeth are completely straightened but he wanted to make that one look better. I did not ask for it to be reshaped, it was my ortho who want...

This happened to me many times. There were times when I had to have my husband and both of my sons try before we could get the key in again. It took a lot of patience and a lot of angling in different directions sometimes to get the key in the hole. If you feel like you just can't get it you can go ...

I had a RPE and though I never got used to it, it did get easier to eat and speak with it. It can be difficult to clean it since everything you eat tries to find its way under it and you will probably find a new creative side to yourself when it comes to ways to remove food. I never experienced any ...

Hi Tasha, I had a root canal done by my dentist about 1 year ago and it did not go well and I ended up going to an endodontist to get it redone. The first time I went to the endodontist, he did some xrays and put me on an antibotic to clear up the infection. The next appt he packed the canal with me...

My face definitely looks longer than before braces. I think it is caused by the open bite  that I now have that I did not have before. I expect it to change back after my bite gets corrected. Maybe you have something similar? If so, I would think that it would change back so try not to worry ...

Bread is the hardest thing for me to eat. It somehow always goes under my expander and I have had it in for over 4 months. I try to keep everything I eat pushed to the far side of my mouth but unfortunately it still finds its way to the expander. I will give you this advice though....DO NOT under an...

Amburly, I am so sorry to hear about your problem. I would call my ortho and see if he/she can call in something for pain that you can take before you have the expander put back on. If not, call your medical doctor or dentist. I would even resort to going to a walk in clinic and pleading my case if ...

Congrats Camille! The pain shouldn't last too long. I had quite a bit of pain for about 1 week but it wasn't unbearable. Now it comes and goes but the worst is always after an adjustment and its never been as bad as when the braces were first put on. Though the pain never bothers me too much. I just...

I'm definitely doing this FOR me. Never any doubt about why I have braces and I'm sure I will never change my mind. I have wanted braces since I was 16 (I'm now 42). My parents couldn't afford it and 10 years ago when my husband said go do it, we can afforded it - I had 2 consults and the fear and e...
