Hi there Hunterlaar, I think at 23 you are probably in the 'older' end of the young bracket of people when it comes to orthodontic treatment, so it's a very good plus. At this age there are usually more options open to decide on when it comes to the ortho treatment, so you are definitely not too old...

Hi Newmetal, Tough it out and perservere on, it'll be worth it in the end. I'm about 5 months behind where I expected to be in my ortho treatment and sometimes I feel the same way as you, but I try to remember why I started this and focus on the end result. If it takes a bit longer than anticipated,...

Hi Newmetal,
My ortho is going to be closing two extraction gaps in my lower arch using mini-screws, and he has told me the timeframe would be 1mm movement per month.
Don't know if this applies for everyone and every type of case.

Hi Hawa, Well done for taking the plunge and deciding to get orthodontic treatment. That's the major hurdle over with. If you have any doubts at all about the ortho you have already seen than I would recommend you seek out other consultations, especially if you are not entirely happy with the treatm...

Hi, Your brother in law sounds like he's yet to reach puberty! You could try some Churchillian-like comment such as "I may have braces, but in xx months my teeth will be perfect, your face however will always be mashed !!" Seriously though, just ignore him, it's his own ignorance to other ...

Hi Trav, You are one hell of a brave guy wearing your headgear 24/7, I think it takes a lot of guts. I'm sorry that it's going to be longer than you anticipated, but you sound as though you are competely at ease with it now, so I'm sure it won't seem so long in the end! The "1mm per month"...

Hi Newmetal, I'm sorry to hear of your predicament. I think your assessor must be one hyper critical guy, most of the lecturers on my HNC were incoherent! Quite often in my job I have to give demonstrations on the equipment we manufacture, and after a while of blabbing I suffer the same problem with...

Hi Trav, Well done for having the courage to go public with your headgear, I think you are one hell of a brave guy!! The first few times you wear it outdoors will be the hardest, and you are already past that now, so it will only get easier for you. As far as the timeframe goes, when I asked my orth...

Hi Lisa65, Thank you for your help, I hope it goes well for you next week if they activate your mini-screws. You're right, I think your case sounds a lot more complex. I would not fancy having them in the palatal area either, you are much braver than me! My ortho hinted at my last appointment it was...

I had a bite plate for about 5 months, not removable though. My speech was shot to hell for about a week then got better, but I never could get the ssss sound right. Mine was for the same reason, to stop you biting off the brackets on your lower teeth while they being moved into the correct place. I...

Good luck Chris with your mini-screw implant, hope all goes well. I must admit I've got a vested interest in this. My orthodontist has told me I'm getting these on both sides of my lower jaw to help in closing the gaps where my first molars (the smallest ones) are missing. Can't get a date out of hi...

Hi Newmetal, I also found this 'staining' effect was happening with my clear braces, but rather than being the braces themselves it turned out to be two other things causing it:- - excess glue around the bracket which hadn't been cleaned off was staining. and - using clear or white coloured ligature...

Hi Luke, I must admit I was the same after I got my braces in March. For some reason having braces made me start taking more notice of other peoples teeth, I'm still just as bad now. I was actually a bit surprised because the more I looked, the more I saw people all ages with braces (I hardly notice...
