Hello Hannah I've also got a nance button - I've had it since the start of my treatment almost 8 months ago. Mine is basically a button like thing, about the size of about a 20p piece, that sits in the roof of my mouth with a wire coming out either side which then attaches to my molar bands. Hard to...

Hello I went skiing just a week after I had my bottom brace put on. I was in a chalet and had to sit and eat around a communal dining table with a bunch of strangers and also went to ski school every day! It was good timing actually as I was so active I didn't have a chance to think about my brace. ...

I am a bad clencher too. I know that I did it at night before braces but it is getting worse. I feel like I do it all the time and have to make a conscious effort to stop it. It is getting quite bad at night. When I wake up in the morning or during the night I find my jaw kind of quivering, as if my...

Annoying nance button
My nance button is starting to really annoy me and at times can be a bit painful. I was wondering if anyone else has had something similar and if so, what they did about it. I have had it for 2 months now and up until Tuesday was coping perfectly well with it. However, I woke up on Tuesday morning w...

HELP! Archwire has pinged out of bracket
Hi I was eating a chocolate earlier this evening and felt the archwire ping out of the back bracket on one side of my bottom jaw. I have an extraction gap next to the last bracketed tooth and there was a length of archwire going across the gap which then went through a hole in my last bracket. As I ...

Hi Ema Don't worry, you'll be ok. It takes probably less than 5 seconds to put each spacer in. When my ortho did mine she had them on these plier type things and just popped them in between my teeth. You might feel a bit of pushing upwards if the teeth are a little tight but it doesn't hurt a bit. Y...

Wires question
Hello A quick question about wires. I had my top brace put on nearly 4 weeks ago now. I have molar bands on my last but one molars with metal bits sticking out on the outside (cheek side) - (are these called cleats?). There are little end bits of wire sticking out behind the molar bands which iritat...

Bottoms just on - very uncomfortable
Hello I got my top braces on December 20th and found it to be a lot easier than expected. However I got my bottoms on earlier today - only about 4 hours ago in fact - and I am having a bit of a nightmare. My teeth feel like they are constantly "on edge" - you know how you feel when you hea...

Congratluations on getting your braces from another UK member! I will have had my braces for two weeks tomorrow and I must say that it has been so much easier than I thought it would be! I just have my uppers at the moment as well as a nance button and palatal arch and I can honestly say that it has...

Yes, I had two extractions (on the same day as you in fact, Joney). I had two top pre-molars taken out. I had a bit of trouble with one of them though - it snapped at the root as the dentist was pulling it out. I had to have it surgically removed in the end which was a bit of a bummer but it didn't ...

My first week (and a bit) in braces
Hi Everyone I thought I would post an update of how I am getting on now that I have my braces. The main reason I am getting braces is to reduce my overjet (I think it's about 10mm so pretty big). I was told that the best option was to get surgery but I was adamant from day one that I didn't want to ...
