I was a bit surprised, but I have lost 12 pounds. Since I keep my teeth real clean, I don't snack anymore to avoid the cleaning routine. It is also harder to eat since my front teeth are real tender, forcing smaller portions... While it is nice, I know it is only temporary unless I make some additio...

I have ceramic upper and lowers. For a while I was very obsessed with not being noticed, and most people don't unless you are real close. I also would hide my smile and keep my mouth closed. Now, I have gotten over it and have decided to have some fun. I had pearl for the last two adjustments, and t...

Another thing to consider is that in technology, there tends to be quite a bit of turnover. Most people don't stay in a position or company that long. In a fairly short time you will find that few people will know that you ever had braces. People move into new positions, take new opportunities all t...

I am in a similar situation, just a little older at 40 and the opposite gender. I have six upper and lower all in ceramic. Supposed to have them about nine months. The strongest reaction I have had was from my mother! It was as though she was insulted because I did not have them as a kid, that she h...

Wow, this thread rang so true for me... I have had mine for over a month and my family did not know I got them (except one brother). This weekend I tried to hide, but it was one of the first things my son said when he saw my parents. Oh well, it was inevitable, I was under examination... I was avoid...

I have ceramics top and bottom. My upper ones are totally comfortable and I mostly forget they are there. Seems like there is more room for some reason. But the bottoms are more noticable, I always feel them. If I had been paying more attention, I might have looked at the models to see the size diff...

Well, my daughters gums have swollen up to and around some of her brackets! Pressing her on the issue, she owned up to not really brushing and never flossing... Since I am in braces now and much more aware of what should or should not be going on... We took her to the dentist to check out the gums t...

My 13yr old son had the expander, and yes it gave him the hillbilly look! It was huge! I was amazed at how much it moved, and in just a couple weeks! He had brackets, but no wire during that time. When we stopped adjusting it, the ortho wired the expander mechanism so it would not move anymore and i...

I agree with the other posters, that you tend to freak out the more you think about it. Once it is done, it is sort of anticlimactic. You just move on and work through the inconveniences... Alot of the discussion on this board is therapeutic in nature, a way for us to discuss our issues and get thor...

I have ceramics (top and bottom), and they are not noticable from a distance. My wife says she can't see them at all after about 10 feet. Up close they are visible, but they don't jump out at you like the metal ones. My daughter and son have metal, so I have something to compare too. Their braces ar...

You did it!! Congradulations! As for the lip hanging... I think you may try that lip extension that many brace wearers seem to have. I know I do it, I push my upper lip out and over the brackets... If I have smiled real big (pulling lip over brackets), then I have to do the lip extension to get them...

For me, all the real mouthwork was all at once. My consultation was just an examination and explination, nothing was done other than schedule me for two appointments, back to back, on the same day. So brace day came... There was paperwork (break out the checkbook). Then the first real action was the...

C'mon Beck, you can do it, don't psyc yourself out! And yeah, the weight loss is another angle!! I also have lost over five pounds. I think it was not eating much and totally wiping out my snacking. I eat, brush and don't want to mess with anything until the next meal. I suspect the loss is tempory ...
