I'm a 57 married female and I've had my braces on for 11 months. I had an overlapping front tooth and very crowded crooked teeth. I say go for it BUT PLEASE ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS! I really thought that when the braces corrected all the problems and the braces were removed I would have a $6000 smile...

So glad to read these posts on gum grafts. I may be needing this down the road. My concern is that the gum grafted on would be a different color and look odd. Does time make all the gum color blend together? At one appointment my ortho suggested gum grafting and the following appointment said maybe ...

I'm 10 months into treatment and 56 years old. My top teeth have straightened out nicely but the gum lose is evident. I have those horrid black triangles between several of my top teeth. At one visit my ortho said something about post braces surgery and then at my last appointment he said he'd have ...

Thanks Maryaten. My loops do look like the ones in the picture you posted. I hate to be obsessing but I still wonder what exactly did the assistant do to (activate) or open the loops. I know her tool didn't touch the loops themselves. Did she pull the wire through the molar band and then twist it?

The wire does have four loops. Two on top and two on the bottom. Since June 25 the gap from extration on bottom right is closed and top right almost closed. Still work to do on top left. In June these wires were put in but weren't "activated". On Tuesday he used the term "activate&quo...

Closing wire question

Almost at the 10 month point. Yesterday at my appointment the ortho assistant activated my closing wire on the bottom right and both sides on top. That got my attention and even drinking water seems to hurt my teeth today. My question is what exactly did she do? She didn't cut the wire? Just pull an...

I had to have three old fillings replaced. Went to the ortho in the morning and had the top wire taken out. Went to the dentist and had the fillings replaced and returned to the ortho's office later that afternoon to have the wire put back on. You'll have to see what your dentist says about the cavi...

I had seven brackets, both ceramic and metal, repositioned at my June appointment . The assistant had me bite down hard on a piece of rolled cotton while they popped off each bracket. She said it is usually less painfull if you're biting down. I didn't feel any pain except for the pressure I was app...

I have ceramic braces on top. The first wire was silver. At the first two adjustments they put in a teflon coated wire. Now I'm told the stronger wires don't come with teflon coating so I'm back to the silver.

I had my seventh adjustment on Monday and my ortho put brackets on the back bottom molars. Using lots and lots of wax! Two less places to just slide floss through. One of the things I've learned from this site is no two treatments are the same!

Thanks Maryaten. Understand with your egg example. I will bring this up with my ortho at my next appointment. Probably something he'll address further into my treatment. I'm only six months along on this journey.

I have ceramics on top because I wanted them to be invisable!!!! Into my sixth month and because the wires are getting heavier they have to use the metal colored wires. At least this is what the ortho assistant told me. Something to keep in mind when deciding between all metal and ceramics.

I too had an overlapped front tooth. Now my two front teeth are straight but I developed a gap between them. To me the gap was big enough to drive a truck through!!! At my sixth adjustment he put a powerchain on the two front teeth. Three days later and the gap between the lower part of the tooth is...

Ruth, You certainly have had an interesting journey. It is amazing how quickly we see change. Flossing in places that we couldn't when the braces were first placed on. Spaces where teeth were tight and no space where there were gaps. Age is just a number and won't it be wonderful when your teeth are...
