positive news for those considering braces - and 2 questions

Hello Three or so weeks into braces (just the top) - a comment and some quesitons. First, the comment. I was very anxious just before the braces went on. I'm 40 and newly single and all that goes along with that just added to the stress. But so far, the response - from friends and strangers has been...

Braced - Day 1

braces went on yesterday- just top teeth for now. Having it done at a Dental school - so far I'd say I'm pretty happy with the experience. The Prof who is overseeing my case committed once again to my being out of braces in 9 months. Not a lot of tooth movement, making space for implants basically. ...

Thanks guys - I'll let you know how it goes thursday. And I'll check amazon and ebay out right now for sonicares. I'm a little less nervous now than I have been recently, just kind of strapping myself in and hoping for the best. I'm still unsure about the specific treatment plan that has been propos...

This Thursday

Three more days until brackets... I've posted before, but here is the basic deal. I'm 40, have had baby incisor issues (and one baby molar, removed last week) need braces to 1) align front teeth and 2) make room for 2 or 3 implants. Hopefully it won't take forever, I've been told 12 months - the fro...

Closer - Nervous

Hi Just posting again as I get closer. Two weeks away now. Had a perio and prosth consult today. Very frustrating bc the ortho file did not get to them so they had no real info. I am dealing with a dental school (BU) pros and cons to this, but I am a bit nervous that the ortho resident I am working ...

Just scheduled my appts for spacers and then - 1 week later - Nov 20 - braces! I have posted a couple of times already - my case seems simple and complex at the same time - not a lot of tooth movement, but three implants eventually and one extraction. Several variables but overll I think it will be ...

thanks guys This does help - I guess I am looking to shorten the process but I don't want to cut corners if it means problems down the road. I thnk that I will let them make the call - it just doesn't yet make 100% sense to me (the plan calls for moving two teeth into the spot where the baby tooth i...

one major question regarding treatment plan

Hi I was hoping to get some advice. I am on my third consult for braces (2 w/ortho and 1 w/oral surgeon. Now scheduled to get together w/prosthodondist and ortho for (hopefully) last consult before braces. I should add that I am having all of this done at a dental school (BU) mainly working w/first ...

thanks Wired1 Looks like corticotomy is a general term for any sort of induced trauma to the jawbone (or bone in general). In my case, the procedure will involve them making lots of little holes under my gums, which then puts my system into overdrive to repair the area, and allows for the teeth to m...

Thanks everyone! Very helpful. Rory, thank you for the insight into the (larger) bone graft. I thinks this will be an issue, and my thought is that they could do a lot of ortho without actually pulling the tooth first, then pull later and put an implant in. You'd have to see the tooth of course, but...

new here - lots of questions

Bear with me, but if someone could give me some guidance it would be much appreciated! Here is my situation. I'm 40, have known that I would need braces for a while, and finally made the decision. I have had a Maryland bridge for 20 years (left of front tooth) and have a gap on the other side - resu...
