Retainer Questions
Hi All, Long time no see. I got my braces off in late March and I'm not really all that happy with the results. My lower laterals are more-or-less straight (they were rotated 45 degrees inward) but I'm left with triangle-shaped spaces at the bases because the teeth are wider at the top than the bott...

I am a big weenie. I got mine on on a Wednesday afternoon late and didn't go back to work until Monday. And I am glad I did it that way. What I did do was hop on a plane Thursday morning to visit my parents. I remember going home the first night and feeling like I had a whole bus in my mouth. Then a...

I went to my annual checkup with my GP yesterday. She is one year younger than me (closer to 50 than to 40) and she had braces, the same as mine, ceramic upper, metal lower. At the very end of my appointment, I asked how long she had had them, something I would never have done if I hadn't had my own...

My Ortho sells a cheap ($3) mouth guard (really a sports guard) that fits over my braces. You can buy them at a sporting goods store. Do not get the kind you boil, get the soft, pliable rubber kind. You can cut off the strap that sticks out in the middle. My bebanding day is March 26 and I can't wai...

I have self ligating ceramics on top (bottom are now metal). Since my first adjustment, I have opted for ligatures instead of the clips. The ceramics are huge compared to the metal and the clips added more bulk. Once I realized that ceramics are not at all invisible but rather look like something is...

I am one who got ceramics top and bottom -- because my Ortho showed me a simulation of how they'd look and the metal looked black and the ceramic were essentially invisible. The reality however was that the ceramics were not at all invisible, they were huge and made my teeth really weird looking. At...

Try the neon color ones! It's much harder to lose bright orange, green, grape or berry elastics. Also, I don't necessarily remove them every single time I eat something. And a water pik works fine with them in. So I lose less of them. I lose the most when fishing the new ones out of the packet. They...

My spacer popped/broke 3 times within the week. I was back at the Ortho 4 times in 8 days. The 4th time the assistant showed me how to floss the spacer back in. I wish someone had showed me the first time! The next week when I got my brackets I was back 3 times because my upper central incispr brack...

Closing Wire -- What does it do?
Hello everyone, it has been a while since I stopped by. Computer problems at home and moving house kept me offline for a while. I passed the one year mark on Nov. 1 and the end still isn't quite in sight. My lower laterals remain stubborn (or my Orthodontist lacks the requisite skill) but yesterday ...

I'll be just 3 years away from the big five oh. And wow, this thread has been going for two years!! For all I know, I posted in it previously. Hah. Elle P.S. Adjustment tomorrow, hoping for some good news, like a debracing date. I'm just shy of a year in archwires and I'd love to be done by, say, Ne...

My Ortho has a sort of periwinkle blue -- a light blue but in the lilac family. It doesn't stain and it has been my favorite so far. Since I will still have my braces at my daughter's wedding, I think I will go with the periwinkle on top (her color is grape) and pink on the bottom (for breast cancer...
