PS I should add that my left molars have moved up and outwards which I'm guessing is due to this problem, and which is why I'm back in an active retainer. My bonded retainer is a twisted wire attached to all 6 front teeth plus first molar on the left. It's attached to the first molar to give my left...

Thanks for all your helpful replies, it's clearly a common problem. I'm trying to keep my tongue on the roof of my mouth during the day (I think the prob might be because I'm a mouth breather). I'm now aware that I sometimes push on my left incisor at night too, and am just hoping that the removable...

Hi, Thank you all so much for your quick and helpful replies! :D This is clearly a common problem and there are things that can be done. I know my ortho suggested some type of spike thing on my final retainer but I'm hoping that I don't ruin my front teeth while they play about with the molars. Fing...

Lav - it's a twisted wire. Apparently they have a tiny bit of give at the beginning which might be why my canine has moved a little. Dental Guy - yes it's very frustrating! And it sounds like clenching and thrusting are connected. I think mine is more a combination of the two than a swallowing thing...

It's bonded on all 6 of the front teeth. It must be holding pretty well because my molars have moved far more than my front teeth. I had a splint style retainer that caused clenching probs (do you know if most thrusters clench too?) and I now have an active retainer to slightly improve my bite. But ...

Oh no, I didn't realise it was a common prob! I had no idea that it was my prob until yesterday - despite 6 years altogether of orthodontic work! Has your ortho suggested any ways of retraining your tongue? My bonded retainers are certainly helping and it's likely yours will do the trick. It's very ...

Hiya, I totally sypathise with those of you on this post who feel that your ortho doesn't have time for you. My ortho usually deals with children and I feel that he doesn't have time for my questions. They make me feel like I worry too much (which is prob true) but I have paid loads for this and am ...

Tongue Thrusting - help!
Hi, I've been through braces twice - one full treatment when 16, and one compromise treatment a couple of years ago. My problem was that my bite had opened up on my left side and that my left canine had been pushed upwards. I had upper fixed braces three years ago to bring the canine down and close ...

I don't think I could do fixed braces for a third time. Will a bad bite on one side automatically cause problems or should I be glad that it is not causing me pain or eating probs and just leave it alone. My teeth always seem to lapse and I can't go through it again only for them to lapse for a thir...

Bad Bite
Hiya, I posted on here a while ago but haven't been on for a while because I thought my treatment was done. I'm 28 and had compromise treatment 18 months ago (fixed upper brace and then invisilign) to even out my smile. At the time, the ortho told me that I don't have a good bite. I had never notice...

TMJ or something else? Advice needed!
Hi, I’m wondering if anyone can help me. I’ve been clenching my jaw on and off since having minor orthodontics (for about 8 months now). My bite has always been off and was only slightly improved. I have bonded retainers and wear a bite plate to protect my teeth, but so far the ortho has not bee...

Thanks for all your advice guys! I'm still clenching on and off - it seems a common problem. My ortho said I could possibly go back into braces as a last resort to correct my bite but even that wouldn't necessarily help the clenching pain. The acrylic retainer corrects my bite anyway at night. I thi...

Hi Catfish, Thanks for the advice! I've been really trying to keep my teeth apart when I sleep this week and it does seem to have helped. Who knows what happens when I actually fall asleep but I'm not waking up with the same pain on the left so I must be doing something right! Has your clenching don...
