Hi Tree, I must say, like you I decided to get braces to correct some minor issues and during the process realized that my gum/jaw line was not aligned. So right now I am near the end of my treatment (after only 8 months) and I am wearing the elastic rubber bands to align my gum/jaw line in the prop...

Almost done but!?!??

Ok so I went to the ortho on Monday for my 8th adjustment and she said that I was almost done. I have my take off date set in May 2007. However, I noticed that my canine teeth look longer than my four front teeth. I know that was not the case before I got braces. I mentioned to my ortho but she did ...

Thanks to everyone for your input. I feel a lot better knowing that I am not the only one who has experienced this. Special thanks to Dr. S for dropping the ortho knowledge for us! Here is a pic before my treatment with a closed bite. http://myspace-822.vo.llnwd.net/01400/22/84/1400574822_m.jpg Here...

Open Bite

Just curious if anyone has developed an open bite during the course of having braces??? I started out with a closed bite and wanted to get a few rotated teeth straightened out. The teeth are no longer crooked however during this process my once closed bite is now open. I spoke to the ortho about it ...

Not to mention that it "could" potentially slow down your treatment if you continue this way. I have not had these problems and I eat way more bracket breaking things than you mentioned. However, if I were having the same issue I would probably talk with the ortho about getting a stronger ...

Thanks for everyone's support! I had my teeth shaped today and it went well and I had no pain. The ortho used a tool that looks similar to a drill to shape my front four teeth. The ortho said that more will be shaped towards the end of my treatment.

Thanks again!

Shaving/Shaping Teeth

Just wondering if anyone has had their teeth shaved/shaped? If so did it hurt? If you can briefly explain your experience for me that would help out a whole lot. FYI...I am getting my 5th adjustment next Tuesday and my Ortho said that she will start shaping/shaving my teeth so that they are even. Th...

Hi ronni ! Congrats on finding your sibling and on your decision to have children soon. I don't know what it is like to be prego while having braces, however my sister had braces while she was prego. She said that it slowed the process of her treatment. She was initially supposed to be in braces for...

Hey all! I too am a night clincher! I started clinching my teeth at night about 1 year ago before I got my braces. I know it was due to the stress I had in my life. It would be sporadic, however when i got my braces it was more consistent. Particularly 2 weeks after an adjustment. In fact I woke up ...

calypsojunky - I am glad you brought this up! My ortho mentioned that she will be doing that to me the next time I see her and I was a bit concerned too. Especially because some teeth have sunk into the root and others have been elongated during this process. So I kept thinking how will she know th...

Hi Jacqui! I was told by my ortho not to bite into anything with my two front teeth. She told me to cut everything into pieces. Most of the times I cut my food into pieces, however occasionally I may try to bite into food with my front teeth and a day later they are really sore. So it is probably be...

I agree with Karen, although I had a bad experience getting a few of my ceramic brackets repositioned. The ceramic brackets broke into lots of pieces and the part where the glue had to be scrapped off was just hideous. I truly believe that it is the tools and skills of the ortho that makes the big d...

I too had a slightly rotated tooth at the bottom and the ortho placed wire around the bracket, twisted it tightly and clip it really short. Then she placed a ligature around the twisted wire. This rotated my tooth within a couple of days but when they removed the twisted wire it was very sensitive. ...

Thanks for the words of encouragement and support! It still hurts like crazy but I can now look forward to straighter teeth and I am sure glad they correct this problem sooner than later! I am sure by the time I have to get them removed completely I would have forgotten about how painful this adjust...
