I can't recommend 'smoke' color ligs enough, though after a while they too start to turn yellow... alas :)

Progress -- it does happen!

:-1 Here's a little background first, since I never post (but always read!): I'm about 8 months into an estimated 12-16 month treatment time. To relieve crowding/flaring, the ortho has decided to do some IPR after the teeth are aligned properly. For the past few months before today's appointment, it...

As Meryaten said, it is certainly possible that the bands might be the best tool for the job, so be open to that. For what it's worth, my previous experience with molar bands was positive -- I only experienced discomfort when they were placed and removed.

Some help putting it in perspective: The time will pass whether you get braces or not. Six months will fly by so quickly! I've also found (as KK and others have said) that -- seriously -- everyone else has so much going on in their lives that there's simply no room for them to analyze your orthodont...

I guess this means that the extractions went well, so good for that! :) And yes, you may have gaping holes now, but think of how beautiful your new smile will be!

The same thing happened to me! I asked the assistant why the wire ties were used, and she said that they hold the archwire in place better. I have them on a few of my teeth that are pretty out of whack, so I guess the extra tightness may help them move faster?

Sometimes it depends on the type of floss. I've also been using Oral B Super Floss, which has (in addition to a stiffer end) a spongy section that I use when the 'normal' floss is too hard to get between my teeth. Hope that helps!

PS: I'm also in MD 8)

Congratulations! And if you do indeed play the guitar (as your user name suggests), then I don't think the braces will be much of a hindrance in terms of getting girls... among the girls I know (also college-aged), it is generally agreed that musicians are quite desirable, orthodontics or none :)

When I was younger I had them. They took a while to get used to, but I could talk normally eventually. Maybe your ortho can shave down the bulk a little bit to make it thinner, or cut out a bit from the middle. If it's interfering with you doing your job (which it sounds like it is), why not give th...

Something I found really helpful was making sure I had lots of wax on before I went to sleep. Gives the inside of your mouth a little chance to rest too, I guess. :)
