Hey Ozzy's Mom! Remember me? Your fellow Costa Rican Orthognathic Surgery Tourist. Read over your post surgery posts. Congratulations. Sounds like you had a good experience and good result. I had two surgeries Costa Rica, but they did not involve the nose area as yours did, and were less invasive. H...

Hey Ozzy's Mom--sorry I am just now replying to your earlier email. Man, you need to get a new ortho and fast. Your story made my blood boil How dare he play God with your body, your jaw, your health, your financial security, your life. Also, I suspect a serious need to maintain cultural and social ...

Also wanted to add re: question of how to negotiate possible post-surgical complications with overseas surgery. It's definitely something to take into account. Dr. R. usually wants people to stay at least 10 days to 2 weeks after surgery. Both times I was cleared to leave earlier because healing was...

Congratulations, Miasme!

Sounds like you've done well with your orthognathic adventure. Like you, I found R very attentive and hypervigiliant for possible complications.

I'm curious: do you know what, exactly, caused your earache?

Hello, My ortho treatment was in t he US (round the corner from where I live, actually), while I had two surgeries with R in Costa Rica (see my signature for details.) It went much easier than I thought, logisitically, tho it did provide some moments of anxiety for me. Basically, I acted as informat...

Sorry not to have responded sooner--I'm supposed to get automatic notifaction when a thread I've subscribed to gets a posting, but it didn't happen in this case. For some reason, about a month after the surgery, the 'gummy smile' effect largely disappeared--with the exception of a little bit on my r...

I don't understand. Without x-rays how does he know what needs to be done?

If I were you, I'd get them emailed--I assume somebody, at some point, made x rays of your jaw skeleton, right?

Perhaps it will cost you a few hundred dollars to have a new set made--seems to me worth it!

Nope. I was missing two bottom molars, but didn't need bone graft.

He struck me as conservative, doesn't want any surprises or complications, so I would ask him if the implant anchors should be done at the same time or in a seperate operation.

Hi RoundZ, I have to get the hard drive on my mac replaced--after that I could probably email you photos. I went down there for some regular dental work and an in person consult, at which the OMS took xrays and showed me before and after photos of his patients. You could just email him the xrays and...

Yes, it sounds like you will have the same OMS as me. Will you be staying at Clinica Biblica? Do you speak Spanish--that can only help! I did have a great recovery, esp from this second surgery, but honestly I don't know how much of it was due to my surgeon. For months beforehand I got a lot of aero...

As of today, I am DEBRACED.

Hi everybody, Just dropping a note to let everyone know I was debraced today, about two hours ago. The removal of the brackets took only a few minutes--the bulk of the hour session was spent removing the glue with some kind of drill thing. It went fine. My gums are not irritated and feel much as the...

Five Month Update On Surgery Overseas

Hi everybody, Feel bad I've been AWOL from the board. Guess my signature says it but I'll say it anyway: On Nov 2 I had BSSO, mandibular setback with genioplasty (well, my chin was moved to center my midline) and anchors for two bottom molar implants. Had surgery in Costa Rica. Everything is fine. N...

Phil,

I truly hope that your recovery from here on is no more complicated than what flavor yogurt to put in your smoothie.

Goddess knows, you are due some simplicity in this Great Orthodontic Orthognathic Adventure.

Me and everybody else are rooting for you.

I have also been told I should pursue gum surgery after my braces are removed. It's also called "crown lengthening," "gum contouring" and "gum laser surgery," if a laser is used. I've been told my dentist in Costa Rica that it will cost 250 a quadrant, and that I will n...

No caffeine? This surgeon's pre op instructions sound ridiculous.

I would want a good and thorough explanation of why this prohibition, including a description of precisely what would be the harm of continuing your caffeeine habit.
