I think it depends on your surgery and how long you are in the actual hospital. This vaires so much from person to person and area to area that I don't think anyone can give a pat answer on this one-sorry. For example for me with upper and lower w/genio I was in intensive care unit for 3 days & ...

Sorry I haven't been checking in lately so not sure if this advice is of any use to you or not but perhaps to someone else. A great place to practice "stretching" your mouth is in the shower-really going slowly and if your OS has given you the green light. Also using moist heat and then tr...

When you are going through the "surgery" part it is hard to see the big picture. Let yourself feel what you want-pain wise truly for the most part it is not bad. The worst is felt in the hospital and they give you LOTS of lovely drugs there. :D As someone who found out today that my braces...

For me my ortho and OS worked closely-same plaza of office buildings. One needs the other-you aren't ready for surgery until your teeth are ready-your jaw gets done and then the ortho steps in. I would be nervous that they can't seem to work together. Who recommended who or did you just cold call? T...

It is interesting you should say that Meryaten because the therapist said it is a relatively new way of considering jaw issues. That people are realizing "splints" aka "nightgaurds" are not the answer and that the causes needed to be looked at from all angles. She was telling me ...

Well I had my physio appt :D She was very knowledgeable and in fact my appt was right after a lower jaw only patient. Really interesting to hear his experiences vs mine. At any rate-here is my issue-my jaw(bones-joint) has no pain and in fact she tells me from manipulating it that it has quite the R...

My OS tells me that it is more common the older you are when you have the surgery  I am crowding 40 and so have not bounced back the way for example some of my 20 year old students have. He said that for patients over 35 about 20% need to see someone for physio. It must be fairly common thoug...

I have speech issues since the surgery. It is because of the repositioning of the jaw-it only makes sense. When one is use to talking using your mouth a certain way for 30 years or whatever and then it changes-it is about teaching your mouth to form the words again. Speech involves every part of you...

Will do :D My appt is March 14. According to my OS the physio will help with range of movement and speech issues that I am having..I never knew there was such a thing either-it is apparently quite specialized. One more thing on the learning curve of this journey!

I don't know about speech therapy-I asked about it right about where you are right now and my OS told me to wait. Now at 3 months post op I am being referred for physio-my OS told me that the physio would take care of my speech issues. I go on March 14-I'll let you know

Until you get use to slurping-when I was first banded at the hospital with the syringe I was taught how to drink with a tube that went to the very back of my jaw on the side obviously to where the gap is for your back teeth-or at least mine. Quickly they wanted me to use the cup so this was not for ...

Jadeli-I found that Carnation powder didn't have the after taste that Ensure/Boost did. I also invested in protein powders that I could blend in with other things like juice, milk, soya milk etc. Soups etc can be pureed to death-as thin as you like. I wanted flavour so badly that a big treat would b...

That is really great news that it has gone so well for you! Sleeping is an issue-pillows and more pillows. As someone who also had upper and lower I noticed a difference when I tried to lay a wee bit "flat" with more swelling. Use more pillows in the recliner is my advice. As for fo...

I too was really worried about vomitting after upper/lower/genio and did  But liquid in means liquid out-as nasty as that sounds. The staff are pretty free with the meds and if you feel nauseous at all-tell someone. Try not to focus on that part-I think the potential is there to manifest it ha...

You even 'sound' horrible but I hope it is a bit better now  I had similiar issues and like you-didn't have the best go of it. People who tell me it was not a big deal sort of made me want to choke them. Keeping your nose moist helps alot and sleeping/sitting up at all times is the only way to ...
