Yeah, to an orthodontist "almost there" can mean months lol ... I have two who do my braces (student and full ortho, at Ohio State's dental school). They said something like, "Wow, that was a quick treatment." I got all excited, only to find out that this meant I "only"...

Yeah, good advice - if it's possible, pop it back in yourself ... if not, head to the ortho as soon as possible =)

I lost 5 lbs in the first two days after being braced, but it's not too hard to eat now ... have you asked your ortho about it?

Wow, sorry to hear everything happened at once! I promise you it will get better, though! I got my braces in February ... the first couple days were bad, didn't eat anything except pudding. The next couple weeks were easier to eat, but I still felt weird about smiling and stuff. Now, I don't even ca...

Yeah, that's awesome! Let us know what happens! Braces really aren't fun, but it's definitely worth it in the end!

Depending on the college you go to, you might be able to have the college's orthodontic school do them for a lower price. I'm getting mine through Ohio State's dental clinic and they've been awesome so far. The head of the department looks over them before they're "in place", but they're a...

osubeanbags, I think you see your ortho ASAP. You shouldn't have brackets breaking off if all you have been eating soup and pudding. Be sure and tell your ortho what you have been eating. Yeah, I think I'm gonna stop by Monday ... I don't think these two cured right. I was sitting on the couch and ...

Wow, thanks for the replies! It makes me feel a lot better knowing that it's still possible to eat everything as before. When he asked if I had any questions, I never really thought about it ... then I went to eat and stuff kept getting caught, so I had no idea if I should stick to soups and pudding...

Thanks for the quick reply, Katica! The list of food is great, I'll have to try some of the suggestions! My worry isn't dealing with pain, however. My teeth don't hurt, I'm just worried that chewing food will damage the braces. However, it sounds like this is not so?

I've had my braces on for two days, and so far all I've eaten is pudding and soup. What kind of food is ok to eat? When I try chewing even small bites of stuff, I'm afraid that I'll break a bracket off. Is this very easy to do? I mean this is a great diet, but I'd rather eat haha. Any help is apprec...

I got mine on about 8 hours ago (metals, top and bottom) ... I've noticed a very slight lisp, barely noticeable at all though.

Thanks everyone! Braces are on! It went pretty well, took about 1.5 hrs to sign in, get them on, and leave. They don't hurt, but I can definitely feel some pressure (it's been about 8 hrs). So far my biggest problem is eating lol ... I'm afraid that I'll break a bracket when I chew on food, so all I...

Permanent retainer?

I had my final consulatation with the orthodontist yesterday, braces will go on Friday! I know it's quite a ways off, but he said after the braces come off he'll probably apply a permanent retainer ... I was just wondering if anybody else has one or has any input on them ... I think I'd rather have ...
