I was able to sing about 5 weeks after surgery, after I got the splint taken out. I'm loosely banded and can't open all the way, but I was able to go to choir practice and sing again! As far as full out, big mouth, big sound...it's going to take a while for the jaw to loosen up (for me).

My surgeon wanted to do genio on me, but I declined due to the cost. I think most of the time the surgeon wants to create the correct symmetry and proportions for the face, so the chin deficiency that sometimes accompanies an overbite requires genio. Two hours will be a rough ride, I'm thinking. Tak...

exodus24: First, talk to your orthodontist and let him know that you've decided surgery will be okay. He will refer you to a great surgeon that he probably works with alot and then you'll go see him. They will walk you through the whole process.

I'm with you on that one. I miss food so bad I can't stand it. I've got three more weeks before tasting something I can chew.

Yes, cream of wheat has been my little life saver. Aside from the super thin liquid only diet, the cream of wheat has added the texture I needed. although, I'm three weeks post op and I'm already tired of the liquids. I'll just keep hanging in there though. It'll be over soon. Question about the zip...

It'll end one day. :D Just have to keep trudging forth. I learned at the beginning to just trust my doctors and do what they tell me, because they are honestly wanting to make me healthy and pretty.

Is physical therapy pretty common after surgery for range of motion after being clamped shut for weeks? My OS hasn't mentioned that it will be needed, but I imagine the muscles need to get some practice in working again after being still for so long.

I've been having headaches this week also (two weeks post op) and they've never been a problem before. I think it's definitely related to the pressures going on inside my mouth and jaw. There's definitely pain and pressure around my eye sockets. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Most likely it's ju...

I've been very careful brushing, but I brush alot because I like the clean feeling. I hope I haven't disturbed any stitches. There's one little area that kinda stings. I wonder if it's torn....

1 week post op: Encouraging story

Hi. I had lower jaw advancement (BSSO) one week ago today. I've had the best experience! The surgery went as expected except an extra fracture on one side of the jaw bone my doctor had to fix up with a titanium plate. Due to the fracture, he also had to put a splint between my teeth which he didn't ...
