redux after over almost a month: stiff-end floss works for me but plain thick waxed floss works almost as well (without a threader). i need two clocks to time my flossing: one for threading the floss the other for actually flossing :-) it's those back brackets that really push me over the edge and m...

as usual, this topic is probably the most lively. as much as it's talked about, people seem to not tire of the debate. i had options, including invisalign, but i went with the least expensive: traditional metal brackets. i work at home and i don't mind the look. for me, ceramics were going to cost a...

i think i have noticed a difference in my own speech, just some 'looser' s and f sounds more than anything else, but it's really not noticeable I am told. thing i found was this: if you do a lot of talking make sure to keep wax handy! those back brackets can do a number on the inside of your mouth! t

what other people think...?

Folks, I have been a little self-conscious lately, more so that just about me, as my wife and I are both wearing braces at the same time. It really just happened that way, we have different dentists who happened to recommend orthodontic treatment about the same time, and we're in a position to do it...

EasyE, Without having read all six pages of correspondence on this thread, but having seen your pics, at the risk of being a little bold here, I would say this: your teeth more poorly aligned than mine; if I had your teeth I would be wearing braces. Now that you've gotten this far, I think you shoul...

i'm also working on trying to floss without threaders or stiff-end floss. it's either denial or hard-headedness, or maybe I just like to make my life harder, but you know: i can't be bothered, and it didn't take me much longer without the threader. i also use thick floss, so maybe that helps too. i ...

after a first day/night, i look back and there are a couple of things i've niticed: the more i talk or eat, the more i notice those back brackets. the inside of my mouth will be sore with or without wax for a few days. for me it's not intolerable (yet) to go without wax, so i'm putting it off. i *ca...

got my braces on today and i had a 'pop' almost a minute after they put the ligs on, while i was still in the chair. i was sure a bracket had already popped off. i told the assistant and she looked in right away. it all looked fine. they said it was normal especially right after a new wire's been pu...

ok - so how long should it take to floss?

*now* i know why the ortho said floss *once* daily. criminy! that took me like 20 minutes! i know - it's day 1, and it's got to get better than that! and i'm including the use of that cool proxa brush. but: to put it in a positive light this experience will put me into a routine which i've never mad...

tommyfive's brace day

my top arch is braced! it was cake really, the hardest part was worrying about it and the ambivalence i had right up until i walked into the ortho's office. i thought about turning the car around a few times on the way there, but i persevered... really it was a very easy, quick, and painless experie...

...my date is set for the 23rd. DO you know how long you will be braced?? 10-12 months is what they tell me. my wife is jealous; she got her braces on a month ago and will be wearing them for 18-24 months (i tend to think it will be longer, but who am i?). i'm actually not horribly worried about th...

tax return! braces on march 21!

just when i thought i would be waiting months to start because of cashflow logistics, the tax return looks like it will hit the account this month, so i scheduled my brace day tentatively for march 21! woo hoo! there's not really much more to say about it, except that i'm counting down and dealing w...

my consult was on 1/23 and from then up until this past monday i anticipated my chair appointment being today. monday we looked at the budget and decided i have to wait another month. i never thought it was as important to me as it seemed to be that night; i felt so let down, even though i knew it h...

there are clearly cases where it's not a matter of choice, but as it turns out (according to wifey who had her top arch braced yesterday) that our ortho apparently prefers to brace upper and lower arches separately to reduce the shock to patients. i will ask about this when i set up my appointment(s...
