DentaKit covers did it for me.

So, I tried a couple of things, including "going slow" and being careful, and that didn't work.

Having the covers on made a huge difference. The covers are actually softer than my teeth, so having them over the brackets means that .... well, everything is just fine.

... My ortho has been great--he's taken every concern of mine seriously... Bri, it's great that you have an ortho who is paying attention and taking your questions and concerns seriously. My experience with doctors, including the other kind of ortho (orthopedic surgeon), is that the willingness of ...

Thanks for the hint about covers!

NotBob1 revealed: So I invested in a set of those comfort covers. They work great. My wife will not let me near her unless I am wearing them. She's OK with kissing, just not everything else. I was wondering what to do about this problem, so thanks for the recommendation. I just ordered. My wife is e...

Re: How are you paying for your braces?

... interesting stories to be told about how the money was obtained. Two parts, the Brace part and the Crown part. For the Braces: Insurance covers $1500 Down payment of $1400 Monthly payment of $150 for 24 months, which I get immediately reimbursed out of an FSA For a total of $6500. The change in...

Superfloss, but similar experience

I've also had good luck with superfloss, particularly on some of my very short lowers where there's very little space between the bracket and the gum line. I can get the spongy part down around the bottom of the bracket where I can't get the brush, and get the thin part leveraged between the teeth. ...

Adult ortho benefits

We have excellent benefits in my organization. For adults, the program covers 50% up to $1500 for orthodonture. It also covers 50% of a few of the ancillary things, like the crowns, but also with limits. So the program will cover $2500-$3000 of my cost, and I'll have to cover $6-8K, depending on exa...

Re: what will people think - or should I care?

...but i'm spending all this money on myself - i'm just not used to doing that - and it will be so obvious to other people, i mean folks know what this costs. Ah, I do understand where you're coming from. I did rather shudder at the cost of braces, redoing some crowns, and crowning a couple of addi...

Snappy comebacks....

This has only happened to me once, and I was really surprised when it did. I think I came back with "You must be kidding me. Did you not get to pull enough wings off of flies when you were a kid?" I do get people who are surprised and curious. One kid (a classmate of my daughter's) was rea...

Yep, I feel your pain.

I've had a similar experience to yours. In my case, if I'm going slowly I can feel that I'm about to bite down too hard and avoid really bad pain. But if I bite down when I'm not paying attention, or if I bite where I didn't expect, it feels like a stake in my jaw. I suspect it's because I'm biting ...

Old guy with (pretty) new braces

Hi, I'm Tom, and I have braces. I'm 45, and had terrible dental care as a kid. We went to the dental school about once a year to get all our teeth looked at, so I have a lot of old, large fillings, particularly in my molars. I also had a pretty crappy diet as a kid, so my teeth are rather brittle. M...
