a visit to a periodontist

Okay friends, some of you might remember my dilema regarding whether or not to get a bone graft on a gap site b/c my ortho thought that getting the graft would facilitate closing the gap (which has been quite stubborn). I visited with the oral surgeon who after examination wasn't entirely certain ab...

Need advice, soon

I had two bi-cuspids extracted prior to treatment. One of the gaps is not closing. The ortho thinks it's b/c during the extraction there was some bone loss. The ortho is thinking of giving me a bone graft in that gapped area in order to 'strenthen the site' so we can move the back tooth though it in...

I had a similar situation where they added bonding (build up) to my top molars to keep me from biting down on my front braces. It was indeed very difficult to get used to, but I did eventually get used to it. Initially I had ALOT of trouble eating b/c I could barely chew my food. Trust me, it takes ...

Nosebleeds - does this happen to you?

I've never had a nosebleed in my life, until a month ago when I got one (kinda freaked me out too  ). Then this Saturday I got another one. I hadn't made the connection before till someone it brought it to my attention, but both times it's happened after the Friday I get my braces adjustment....

I've been in braces for 15 months. The treatment time is supposed to be 24 months. We'll see. I see now from reading all the responses here that it has alot to do with attitude and being positive and I'm certainly beginning to feel better about them now that I've heard everyone's comments here! :D

Thanks guys!!! your words of encouragement mean alot! I guess I've just been a little down on myself and everything can seem negative from that perspective. It's true that I am fortunate to even be able to AFFORD braces - think of all the people that can't?? I'm so very glad I brought this subject u...

braces and self-image

I know that braces are suppose to enhance our self-image b/c we got them to fix our smiles in the first place. But i'm curious to know how you ladies deal with the 'self-esteem' issues that braces bring on? if any? I find that since i've had my braces I don't feel very 'attractive'. I really feel li...

Thanks for the encouragement folks :-) I know I have a valid concern and I think my ortho sometimes forgets I'm 35 and not 12.

Extractions caused too much space.....

I have had two upper bi-cuspids extracted to relieve crowding. But it appears that now the extractions caused more space than was needed. In moving my canines back to fill the extraction gap, a new, and rather noticeable gap has formed between my canine and the teeth next to them. My ortho's solutio...

moving teeth back - will it cause face to change

lots of talk on this forum about changing faces - and i'm certainly concerned about mine. i'm 35 btw and i know that it might be different for adults. i had two upper bicuspids extracted and have powerchains on, working on closing the gap. one side is not closing too good, but we're working on it. H...

I guess what I'm trying to find out is, if a bone graft is necessary in the place of the extraction (pre-molar) in order to move the molar behind that space, foward. I had never heard of this..... This is what my ortho is suggesting might be necessary. So I'm somewhat upset b/c I don't want to go th...

Gap not closing :-(

Hello all, I've been lurking around here for some time and finally decided to post this and get others opinions. I had two upper bicuspids pulled (first molars) to make room for my crowded teeth. On the left side the gap created by the extraction is closing rather nicely, although a smaller gap has ...
