Modified Essix retainer - problem

I was debraced almost two weeks ago and was given Essix retainers. Today at my polishing appointment, the ortho used pliers to make a bump in the retainer to move one of my teeth (UR4). However, this has changed the way the retainer fits and it now feels loose on my back teeth behind the one he's ad...

Thank you both so much! I will ask him just to be sure when I have my second polishing next week.

My gums bled a lot when he was polishing...my ortho said it was normal also. I've been doing warm salt water rinses 2x/day and it seems to have helped. They're still a little sore but no more bleeding.

I don't have headaches now but I've heard that's pretty common - hope it gets better soon!

I have Essix too, upper and lower. Congrats on getting debraced! I just got mine off this morning. Mine hurt too right now, but I think it's normal for them to hurt in the beginning since our poor gums are shocked from the debracing...at least that's what my ortho told me! Are you doing your 16 hour...

Debraced today, can't close mouth with Essix (pic) - normal?

Hi! I was debraced this morning and given my Essix retainers about an hour ago. The doctor had one of his assistants give them to me because he was busy with other patients so I didn't get to ask him about this. I cannot close my mouth entirely with the retainers in and I'm worried this is going to ...

This is a bit of a hike from MD (in South Riding VA) but Dr. Neal Kravitz is excellent and does linguals as well as traditional orthodontics. http://www.kravitzorthodontics.com/ He really cares and is extremely responsive. His email goes to his SPAM SPAM SPAM and if you email him he'll usually call ...

It's possible that it's stronger, but he didn't say anything specifically about it. Unfortunately, they're closed Thursday and Friday so I guess I just have to gut it out until Monday. Thanks for your reply.

Jaw pain after adjustment

Hello. I had a very uncomplicated adjustment on Monday - replacement of a power chain only, and he took the upper wire out to look at it, but didn't change it. Since then, I have had some fairly serious jaw pain, which is something I've never experienced after an adjustment before. I cannot open my ...

Lingual brackets are supposed to be custom manufactured. They take a mold of your teeth and send them to a lab where each bracket is custom made for each tooth. That's part of the reason they're so expensive. I think you should find someone else, and I definitely think you should go with someone who...

Hey! I haven't been debonded yet, and am still deciding on retainers as well so I'm interested to hear what people say about that. However, I do think that any effects (bad breath, food getting stuck, etc) of a bonded retainer will not be nearly as bad as the food that gets stuck in braces! You do h...

Transferring orthodontic treatment

Has anyone ever transferred from one ortho to another during treatment? Backstory: I had upper linguals put on two years ago. After a year, he wanted to take them off but I was unhappy with the results. He told me that he was very limited in what he could do, because I didn't have lower braces. When...

If it's not too much of a hassle to take the rest of that day off, I think you should go for it. I was pretty uncomfortable my first day in linguals (not saying I was incapacitated or anything, but it was definitely a good thing for me to have a day to try to practice talking and such, and just to g...
