Haha, my ortho is a hottie too. When I went to the oral surgeon, all the ladies in the office were talking about him. Even the oral surgeon commented that the ortho is better looking than he is. Then the surgeon mentioned the ortho was single. Woohoo! Ha, not really. Although he's good looking and a...

Interesting band-aid trick. I may try that at night. I have to say, if my tongue got some rest at night, everything suring the day would be a lot less painful. That way I don't wake up with the big appliance-shape crevice in my tongue. Do you think that band-aid leaves adhesive stuff behind on the a...

Amen. I got a TPA that's just murder on my tongue. Wasn't bad at all at first but I think it was because I was so scared to get my tongue near it. But now I've relaxed and my tongue goes back into it's normal spot, which is exactly where the TPA sits. Yikes. I feel your pain. But salt water or perox...

Wow, 3 months. I know I'll have my that long or longer, but that's just hard to imagine. I think it's been almost 1 month now, maybe 3 weeks. Now this thing on my tongue is totally white. I think it's a calous. Can you get those on your tongue? It's not as sore now, but now I have two regular sores ...

TPA tongue sore

My mouth has been adjusting surprisingly well to my TPA. Yes my tongue has been raw, but nothing serious. I do salt rinses and peroxide rinses, although not as often as I should. But for a week or two now, I've had one little sore on the middle of my tongue. I think it's right where the central port...

Yep, my ortho does the same thing. Wooden coins. Extra if you wear their t-shirt. I feel silly as an adult wearing the t-shirt to every visit when the kids never do (they're too cool), but I'm working towards a Starbucks gift card. I figure for how much I'm paying these guys to inflict pain on my mo...

I'm learning quite a bit about this whole eating thing. One thing I've found to help is to be adventurous. Try new foods. Instead of a regular baked potato, the other day I had a baked yam with cottage cheese on top. Try different curries and soups (those of you who have never tried curry, you're mi...

Oooh, thanks for posting the pics, KK! Those are nice! I'm jealous. My surgeon told me how I'd get gold chains tethered to my impacted teeth, called them my mouth bling.

The ortho put on black plastic. :( No bling for me. Maybe when I go get them replaced I'll ask for bright pink.

With spacers I was just told not to have sticky candies (like those "jolly ranchers" or taffy or gum). I assume it was so the spacers wouldn't come out, although after having spacers I decided it was so my teeth didn't come out. That's what it felt like. But I like what everyone else says ...

6-8 weeks liquid diet??!!! Oh puke. I was only on one week. Mine wasn't jaw surgery, it was only exposure and bond of some impacted canines. They just didn't want me to have anything bump the roof of my mouth (and the lettuce leaf incident proved their point... although I was cleared by that time). ...

Welcome StarSmile! I had spacers in for two weeks (the second week they had to stay in while the lab made my appliance). Some people only find them tender for a day or so. My teeth were pretty darn sensitive and incredibly painful to chew. But I didn't notice any change in speech at all. No one coul...

Thanks for the info! How do I eat? Carefully. Actually I'm to the point where I wonder what people think when I shake my head to one side trying to dislodge a piece of food from up there. I almost choked on Ramen noodles my first night. I had a great plan since you really don't have to chew much whe...

So I had a check-up with the surgeon yesterday. He was amazed my ortho was able to get chains onto my teeth. I'm so concerned about the possibility of them not moving. Imagine my disgust when he says "oh yeah, I can see them moving already", my heart leapt!!! I said "really?" and...

Oh yeah, as iBorg mentioned, headaches can also be a symptom. Plus clenching and grinding works muscles all down your neck and can feel like a sore tightness in your neck and upper back (yeah, sometimes I can go a little crazy with the clenching).
