Canada?

I was just wondering if anyone had recommendations for an oral surgeon in Vancouver, BC. I am currently seeing a surgeon here in the US but thought I'd try Canada if only to lower my bill as it's out of pocket.

Rainy - which OS have you been seeing? I'm currently seeing Dr. Jessica Lee whom, as Meryaten informed me, was taught under Dr. Bloomquist. I'm pretty happy so far (surgery planned for early Jan.) except I will have to pay $12,000 out of pocket because my insurance specifically excludes orthognathic...

I've never had my tongue pierced so I can't comment on that but I've had a monroe with a stud on the left side and a low monroe with a ring on the right side. The only problem for me was when I would smile, the right side with the ring would get stuck on the bracket that is on my canine (with the li...

The first go'round of braces, when I was about 10 yrs old, my ortho pulled out a drill and completely filed off the tips of all four canines because he said I "looked like a vampire." (I enjoyed looking like a vampire!) Even then I was angry. This time, I made it a point to ask my new orth...

Were you told that they would be lengthening your jaw or "widening" it? There is a huge difference between the two. Lengthening the jaw would not necessarily make it look bigger as they are not moving the ENTIRE thing forward, only cutting it and sliding the front half forward. If you feel...

Awesome retainers Meryaten! That's the one thing that I am personally excited about this go 'round...being able to TAKE OUT the bottom retainer and floss till my heart's content!

Congrats on being brace free!

plasticwings - I had never even heard of self-ligating braces before I had them put on, so maybe different orthos still use the elastic bands on top of the Damon brackets...?

sgguy - I have self-ligating brackets and, really, the only difference that I noticed (having had braces with bands before) was that I couldn't pick out band colors! I was all ready to pick out sweet colors when she said, "All done." I was really disappointed actually. hahaha Like Meryaten...

Thanks for all the input! It's comforting to hear that the numbness (in most cases) isn't enough to be life changing.

As I've said before, this forum has been a HUGE help for me in making the decision to have surgery.

Numbness Census

Hello all. My biggest concern with having orthognathic surgery is the possibility of numbness. As I've said before, I chew my lip (sometimes without even knowing it  ) and not feeling it/possibly doing damage scares me. Anyways, I was wondering if those of you that have had surgery could say w...

All said and done, the total cost of my treatment will be ~$18,500. A little over $12 for the surgery and $6.5 for ortho...all out of pocket. BLAARG! Oh well, as I've said before, not having headaches anymore will be worth it.

I feel pretty confident in her, from the beginning she was very clear when it came to explaining things. She's also had the surgery herself :) It's relieving knowing that you had good results from someone also associated with the UW department! Honestly, I don't know where I will be having the surge...
