Weirdest braces dream!?

I had my first braces dream the other night. In the dream, I had a poky wire near the front of my mouth, and started pushing it with my tongue, then reached up and pulled on it with my fingers. I didn't realize it was the archwire, and suddenly the whole wire came out, and my all my teeth (top inclu...

Have to admit to being lazy, too. I used to run and brush/WaterPik/floss/fluoride rinse after every meal, but have gotten so bad that I'm not even flossing as much as you. Really I must change that nasty habit!

Sarah,

I'm unclear about whether you actually have the braces on yet, because it seems that your ortho should have gone over all this before he put them on your teeth. If not, I'd certainly consider getting a second opinion from another!

Best wishes.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one wearing my t-shirt! Just had to add a postscript to this topic -- last time I went in for an adjustment, I forgot to collect my coins upon checkout. I stopped by later that afternoon and they kinda gave me a hard time about it! A different woman was at the desk,...

Wooden nickels for incentives / prizes ?

At least two of the orthos here in my town give wooden nickels for having good checkups, being on time, no broken brackets, wearing the ortho-issued t-shirt (free advertising for them), etc. You can earn up to 4 wooden nickels per normal visit. At the end of your treatment, you redeem your nickels f...

I use a WaterPik after eating -- it's great for blasting out all that stuff that not even hard swishing with water will budge -- and floss every night. Well, up till I had the surgery. I've just gotten back into the habit of using the Pik again, and flossing was difficult for quite some time after m...

I was convinced that the metal parts in braces would take on the radiation :) Phanta, that is too funny, because I had the same thoughts! When they made me take off my glasses, I thought, "Oh, shoot, what about my bra underwire?" but didn't say anything to the assistant, cuz I figured tha...

Why doesn't my dentist take x-rays while I'm in braces?

I suppose I could just ask him, but I won't be going in for a few months, and I'm curious now. I figure it has something to do with the metal -- BUT, just before I had my surgery a month ago, my ortho did a panoramic x-ray for me to give to the oral surgeon, and apparently they could read it well en...

I don't know about my first consult (I was maybe 13 or 14?) but my consults as an adult were also free, and I had four of them! Each one did a panoramic x-ray of my mouth, and one ortho, poor thing, did all the impressions and everything when I got a little gung-ho and said I was "pretty sure&q...

Hi Becky, I just joined, too, but after I got my braces. I don't have any experience with underbite surgery but I did have surgery to deal with an impacted canine that never descended. It wasn't the most comfortable week of my life, but now that it's over and my tooth seems to be moving into positio...

Yes, it does get better. I remember that, more than the pain, I was more fearful that my braces were going to scrape against each other when I chewed and were going to come off in my mouth! I was terrified I would swallow them and they would tear up my insides, LOL. Seems silly now because nothing h...
