Yea I'm allowed to chew now.
THe first FIVE weeks were liquids/puree only for me- and now I can eat whatever I want using my common sense to not rip apart bread or try eating carrots or steak or things like that- my jaw tells me what I can eat and makes it very clear when I'm straining it.

I had all sides of the Big Enchilada , and I was one night in the hospital. I left at about 8pm on the second day, and almost stayed a second night but than decided I wanted the comfort of my own bed. They won't let you leave until you can consume liquids on your own, and be OK without your I.V. so ...

Gem- Congrats on graduating to REAL food!!! I got the O.K. for soft food 5 days ago, so I've been working at it since and It's definitely a weird feeling but it improves quite rapidly. The first time you will feel like you don't even know how to chew with your back teeth, and you'll probably be temp...

Im a bit jealous of you getting your feeling back so soon! Im 6 weeks post op and my bottom lip is 100% numb still- that should make you fe...

nasty tongue

I too am totally traumatized from the nasty tongue. I could SEE all the filth on it too, but couldnt open my mouth wide enough to attack it with my baby toothbrush. My nurse thought I had thrush...but it was infact just dead skin cells built up....EW! I probably brush my teeth 6-7 times a day now......

MM- Meryaten is absolutely right. And I know i scared myself reading other people's threats, but 5 weeks later I would do it again in a heartbeat. Pain is such a temporary thing, that its SO worth the result. Even through the rough times, I have some very positive memories of the journey. And I can ...

school time

Its a hard question to answer because everyone's situation is quite different, especially with the recovery timeline. I am a student as well, and I took 4 weeks off, but was working from home after 2 weeks. However, I was sleeping 2-3 hours per night during that time and the feeling in my bone came ...

dressage only

I tried the dressage only, and begged, but no...and its an understandable no. He said that my face would actually shatter If I fell off onto it. Going back into surgery and re-doing this all over again doesnt make it seem worth the risk does it? His last equestrian patient got smashed in the face by...

other side

atleast you are on the other side now, no more anticipation for what it's like! as for your throat --> I had a TERRIBLE time with mine- and my surgeon said it is 100% normal to have a sore throat from the breathing tubes they put in you. Some people get it worse than others if they accidently scrape...

Sleeping Position Post-OP!

Another question from me... :?

Just wondering how long until most people could sleep on their side again, and not their back after surgery...basically how long until you resumed sleeping the way you did before surgery?
