Post-treatment pics

Hi there, I used to be a long time lurker and occasional poster on this board while I was undergoing treatment and I remember promising another board member I would post pictures of my teeth once I'd completed the treatment, so here they are! They're only 8 months overdue... http://www.flickr.com/ph...

The Hawley I wore at the start of my treatment had to worn when I was eating - it was also correcting my overbite and as such, it was "training" my mouth as i ate and drank. It's perfectly fine to wear it while eating.

I had a retainer just like that before i got my fixed braces, but just with springs to move back two teeth. The ortho was also trying to correct a massive overbite. Which he did! It took me around 2 weeks to get completely used to it - the speech slurring was my greatest problem, but after two weeks...

I was under the impression it took at least a year for your teeth to settle into their new positions after braces, so I would guess you would have had to wear your retainer for another 6 months.

Certainly makes for interesting reading! My own personal tooth dream is that I'm at the end of treatment and the ortho debands my back teeth...so far so good. However, as he takes the archwire out, all my teeth just come out with it, still stuck to the brackets. I look down and see my teeth in perfe...

Hey it's not often you find a fellow braced accutaner! I've got a slight idea how you're feeling with all those annoying sideffects, but hang on in there, it'll be sooo worth it in the end! I finished my accutane treatment a couple of months ago after a four month course and due to be debanded in 7 ...

Like you, I'm due to get the clear retainer for both my uppers and lowers (Essix) as opposed to the acrylic plate with a wire (Hawley). My orthodontist said that in his own PERSONAL experience, he saw no difference in the effectiveness between the two types of retainer. Of course, there will be diff...

Retainer question

Hi! Just got back in after my ortho appointment who told me that in exactly 7 weeks, my teeth shall once again be naked! Which, obviously, I am stoked to hear. I was told that the type of retainer I'm going to wear is the clear plastic tray one (Essix?), since he likes to give paients something to l...

I had this procedure carried out on my lower incisors. Totally painless, although admittedly, not entirely pleasant. In my case, the ortho used a few different files, starting with a coarser grain, before smoothing them with a finer one, just like you would with wood really. I wouldn't worry about i...

Hello! I'm 19, currently studying at university in Edinburgh, Scotland. I had my lowers braced in June '05 (right before the big 18th lol) and the uppers in Jan '06!

Hopefully, I'll get them off in a week and a half...

Wow, thanks for the replies! I have to admit, the thought of what my teeth might do in the period between fixed brace and retainer had crossed my mind a few times, but it's reassuring to see that the settling will continue with the retainer. Och, not long to go now anyway, and you're right jennielee...
