When I had mine, I turned it myself and had to turn it twice a day. I did not have the SARPE surgery.

I went in Monday morning and they took it off. He then told me no more expander!! I only had it for two weeks so I guess I got off easy! I am not sure why he decided that though! I didn't want to ask and end up with another one-ha ha!

Loose expander!!

I have had my upper expander for about 2 weeks and this morning I woke up with terrible pain on the upper left side of my mouth. Later that day I discovered that on the left side it seems like the expander has become unbonded from my teeth! It is clear that the left side is much lower than the right...

So, I am going to end up paying $6100 (Austin, Texas) for mine without the help of insurance! I am 21 and just found out that my insurance doesn't cover orthodontic treatment over the age of 19 :( I have ceramics on top (an extra $250) and metal on bottom. Treatment time is estimated about 18 months...

I just got a upper palatal expander on Monday. It is not painful getting it put on at all. The worst part is learning how to talk, eat and swallow again. expander troubles

For those of you with expanders I am wondering how long it took you to be able to talk and eat normally. I got an upper expander on Monday morning and I am still struggling with talking and eating and my tongue is contantly hurting as well! Any advice?
