I find the cordless one slightly less noisy than the countertop one. I can use it when my kids are in bed, but the other is way too noisy for that. The countertop one is more powerful and has a smaller wand thingie that is easier to use, but my kids find the cordless easier. Go figure- I'd bought th...

Which are more comfortable on the bottom, ceramic or metal?

I haven't got my bottoms yet, and I won't for awhile, so I wonder. I am scheduled to get ceramics, but I keep reading that they are actually bigger. Is bigger less painful, or more?

Interesting, Meryaten, that metals chip your teeth less.

I can't say I threw up on anyone, but I do find it a bit claustrophobic. Last time I had some trouble breathing, but I just moved my head up a bit and it was better. The mold gunk was getting pretty far back in my throat and it was rather uncomfortable. Won't say I liked it, but I survived. At least...

Do your teeth get sore after you talk a lot?

I had to do a lot of talking to my classes today at work and my teeth are a bit sore. I think my lips press on my upper front teeth when I talk a lot- I also noticed it after a family dinner on the weekend. I noticed the bend in my archwire cut up my upper lip, too- I was dying for wax but couldn't ...

At night you are a lot less distracted, so you notice the pain more. At least that is my theory! All the advice works really well- my kids and I are all braced and the pain does go away slowly. I never thought I would go a day without wax when I got the molar bands, but you can get used to anything,...

overbite vs overjet

What is the difference between the terms overbite and overjet? Is the overbite a function of the jaw alignment (top too far forward) and the overjet the (protruding) teeth only?

Just wondering, I see the terms so much and have not seen a definition.

Interesting reference! I am glad to hear something that says they are equal or close to equal. I will still get my kids (and me) to use the regular braces floss a few times a week. Often they are not as careful about their tooth care as they should be, so every bit helps. The power flosser is a gadg...

Waterpik flosser vs regular braces floss

My kids and I are all braced, and I bought us a waterpik electric flosser (who'da thunk it?) because flossing is a real chore, and I felt at least they would do it if it was a bit easier. Even if it isn't as good as string floss, that is better than not at all, or rarely. I am aiming for electric fl...

What they said... And I ate my roast beef sandwich with a knife and fork at work yesterday. We laughed at me together. I just couldn't bite into it anymore after a few bites. ouch! You'll do great- just don't sweat it! Do the things you need to do to make it more comfortable, and then get on w...

I can see how it might cause gum problems- even at the lower setting if I temporarily miss my aim and hit my tongue or something it can hurt! So why do the instructions tell you to aim for the gumline? I will have to teach the kids to use it carefully. I definitely has advantages, but you have to be...

can you overdo it with the waterpik?

I have to say, the waterpik is a great thing. I am using it 2x a day to blast gunk out of my hardware, and I just got a portable one to blast it out at work after lunch. Even after I brush carefully with my electric toothbrush, I still get food bits out with the waterpik. Eeew. I don't use the highe...

You are probably right, Lisa65. I'll ask in a couple of weeks when I go in next, and finally come home with that inside bottom wire and have to learn to eat all over again, AGAIN.

Well! Would you look at that! It worked! I am so used to seeing my teeth in a mirror-- they look all wrong, and I can see an elastic has slipped. I'll post the pics of my arches, seeing as I am on a roll wtih this thing. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x92/bracieb/teeth%20may%202007/upper-may-07....
