I'm not particularly ashamed to say I did it for cosmetic reasons. I was never very happy with my profile and that was my main reason to get it sorted. I would now say it was 100% worth it at 3 weeks post op. Perhaps a shallow and vain reason but well I'm happy and that's what counts.

I was tight banded for 4 days post op. I'm now 3 weeks post op and I'm still wearing guiding elastics and have them on for another 2 weeks.

Five weeks will be tonnes of time. I am on day 10 post op and my best mate's 21st is tomorrow so I will be out and about for that. I only had single jaw surgery but if I can go out after 11 days I'm sure you'll be fine after 5 weeks. However I will be taking it easy tomorrow night, I have a tendancy...

I will post some pics probably at the end of this week once the swelling has settled a bit more. One thing I forgot to mention which seems to be asked a lot is about the elastics. Obviously this differs from case to case but for what its worth I'll explain how mine are set up. When I woke up I had o...

Yeah I'm really pleased with having all the sensation although it does mean that i can feel a bit more pain in my chin but nothing I can't live with. My jaw was advanced 8mm and the genio was 7mm.

1 week post-op

It's been one week since my BSSO and genio so I thought I would tell you about the experience. Last Tuesday I checked in to the Hospital at 10am and was scheduled to go into surgery at 12.30. Got to my room and went through the normal procedures (pulse, BP etc) and the nurse asked me some questions ...

Tomorrow is the big day!!!

It has finally arrived. I'm having BSSO and Genio tomorrow. I'm going through phases of excitement and anxiety at the moment. By tomorrow morning I'm sure the excitement will probably have disappeared. Have to check into Hospital at 10am so I'm assuming it'll be an early afternoon operation. Any las...

My surgeon told me Titanium won't set off the detectors, just like people who have hip surgeries invloving a lot of metal still don't set off the detectors. I know it would be fun to set them off but apparently it's not going to happen :(

haha. When I say "I'm paying" its not strictly true. It is being payed by medical insurance but only the operation, ie £5000. The ortho is out of pocket.

Thanks, well she's in the UK from my post-op day 7 until day 16. I'm thinking towards the end of that period (post-op day 12+) I should be ok being young (20) and fit I reckon I should be ok. I've already told her all about it and she came across very supportive and sympathetic. As for laughing abou...

I take it you mean privately. I'm having mine done privately in Edinburgh and it cost me approx. £2000 for the ortho and £4800 for the surgery (lower jaw advancement and genioplasty).

Hope that helps, Andy

How long until you look "presentable"

I had my first consultation with the surgeon today and set the date for my surgery, 7th July. A bit further away than I was hoping but at least its finally sorted out. One question I forgot to ask him so thought I'd turn to you lot. How long did it take before most of your swelling had gone down. Ob...

On the cover of every romance there is a very hunky Highland lord of some sort with a drop dead beautiful woman.

Aye but unfortunately the beautiful woman certainly ain't from the highlands from my experience.

Thanks for all the suggestions, lots of help there. I'm having lower jaw advancement and chin advancement for the person who asked (loulou?). Yeah seems to be quite a lot of Glasgow patients about but I'm actually just in Glasgow for uni. Originally from Aberdeen (any sheep jokes will not be appreci...

Hey, Been lurking on here for a while, learnt so much from it, but this is my first post. I've been ready for surgery for the last couple of months but because of uni exams, jobs etc I haven't been able to have surgery till now so it looks like it'll be in the next month hopefully. I'm having BSSO a...
