Not an athlete someone who HAS braces but NEEDS them terribly: Michael Phelps! The first thing he should do with his endorsement millions is get some braces. I'm not sure what the proper name for his particular jaw issue is but whenever I see him smiling and talking on TV it's all I can think about....

Anyone want my scented wax?

I bought a ton of scented orthodontic wax and I never used any of it. I have two (normal sized tiny boxes) boxes of chocolate (my favorite), three boxes of vanilla, and two boxes of coconut. I don't want them to go to waste so I am giving them away. I guess just PM me your address if you want one or...

They do kind of just pop off, quite amazing the lack of effort it can take. The most surprising thing was when they sanded the glue off...it did smell like burning hair (LASIK and tattoo removal also smells this way, ha) and when I got up to rinse it was like I had been "antiqued" (when yo...

I have the half-clear Damons and they are really no less noticeable. There is really no difference between the all-metal and half-metal Damons, visibility wise. you will be able to see all the all-metal braces on the side teeth anyway. You may end up getting ligs at some point too, like me, which ma...

awww yeah, I pointed it out to my ortho today and he put some serious bends in the wire on the crooked incisor, then clamped all my teeth down with ligs for the first time (apparently using ligs on Damons puts additional pressure on the teeth to stay put in their positions instead of slide around mo...

Sucka aint moving

crisis! I have ONE TOOTH LEFT to move before my debanding that is supposed to happen in July. I'm afraid this one tooth will delay everything! See photo, my left incisor simply will not turn. You can see that the ortho put bends in the wire a few months ago to wrench it into place- the teeth on eith...

Keeping your braces

Did anyone keep their braces after they were taken off? Would it be grotesque to ask the ortho if I could take my brackets and wires home with me? They are Damons so they should stay intact during the debanding. I was thinking I could put the brackets back on the wires and keep them to show my futur...

Wisdom teeth nerve damage?

Hi all, I had the wisdom teeth on my right side taken out last Friday, so over a week ago. The extraction sites are totally fine, no pain. I had very little actual jaw pain, I just took ibuprofen. HOWEVER, now my chin hurts! It's a burning, throbbing, unbearable pain on the right side of my chin, ri...

My wires got really slanty as well. The forces of your teeth pulling and pushing against each other to line up in the arch are likely doing it. my teeth went totally the wrong way in the beginning, I think because some teeth were more stubborn than others and were torquing the "loose" ones...

Ok so anyway re: relationships I guess I don't like kissing with braces. My husband and I don't really kiss anymore, I kind of feel more distant in that regard. it just is not pleasurable to me with these stiff things in here. So I bet the all-important first post-braces kiss is really awesome, espe...

I am going the opposite way-I used to smile with both sets of teeth because I had to make sure to pull my lips out of the way of one lower canine that would rip my cheek if I smiled normally. Now I smile with only my top teeth, and it feels more natural. Also, I have developed a dimple in my cheek, ...

Danny Glover's braces

Celebrity braces sighting- I just saw Be Kind Rewind and Danny Glover had barely noticeable clear braces and a very noticeable lisp. In fact, I would not have noticed the braces had I not heard the familiar braces lisp first. I don't know if they intentionally kept him from smiling to keep his brace...

I am also being inconvenienced by my braces in several ways--I also want to have a baby, but I want to stay home with the baby and if I did that I would lose my awesome dental insurance. Plus I am missing out on several lucrative and fun job assignments in Iraq and Afghanistan because they won't let...

Naw, I am positive he put it in upside down, I have only one tooth that is out of alignment, which has had the little bend pushing on it for several months. when he reinserted the same wire, the bend was on the opposite side of my mouth kind of in between teeth in an awkward place. I won't do that a...
