I'm still getting pre-braces treatments (gum grafting, tooth capping etc) so don't have them yet but...yup...I've become hyper vigilant about which adults I see in everyday life has braces and who NEEDS braces. I try not to stare and I'd never tell anyone they needed braces.

definitely go to see your normal dentist first and ask his opinion and referral to perio (if necessary)....dentist check up is hella cheaper than perio your ortho will want all dental issues sorted before he'll pop on braces - i had to have 8 grafts done on my bottom jaw and, once that has healed, i...

I'm in the lead up to getting braces on and I can only say...I hope I look as 'gross' as you do when I get braces. Seriously...those braces don't look bad and you've only got 11 more months to go (I'll be braced for 2 years plus possible surgery). 11 months is NOTHING in the scheme of things...11 mo...

i'd go along with the suggestion to get another consult - and don't be afraid to discuss with the next orthodontist the other 2 dr's recommended treatment (but don't name their names to the ortho) also, ring the 6 month treatment guy and find out why he is recommending that treatment and not the lon...

Too true, Meryaten - most of the shows do go for the quick fix  (bleaching and veneers) rather than what would be best for the patient (braces, oral health education etc). Unfortunately the best option isn't the 'sexy' option for tv programmers. I will admit...on the strength of seeing one too...

Wow, how bummed would you feel to be qualified to be featured on that show? on the other hand it hopefully will empower adults that need to get their teeth sorted to take the leap and do something. I've known about my bite problem for many decades and it is only now that I feel that getting my...

If I want to go with ceramic or gold brackets then an additional fee of AUD $750 per arch applies - so in USD that is 617.520 per arch Living in the big city in NSW is tough DM , as my uppers cost no extra, and if I'd got lowers, I'd had to have paid something, but I know it wasn't much ... just ca...

I'm in western Sydney. I've been quoted AUD 6250 this covers full upper & lower, removal, placement of retainers and supervision during retention phase (approx 4 years). So to make it easier - USD 5,146.00 If I want to go with ceramic or gold brackets then an additional fee of AUD $750 per arch ...

I'm a bit late to this discussion but I'll add what I've been quoted. This is for ortho surgeon in western Sydney. I'm not in a health fund. surgery* fee = AUD 3500 (approx 1770 is medicare refundable) study models and splints = AUD 425 anaesthetic fee = AUD 1300 (approx 300 is medicare refundable) ...

I'm still deciding. My lower jaw comes you a few mms infront of my top jaw...when i speak you mostly see my lower teeth so i'm considering having clears for lower jaw and metals for top (ortho charges like a wounded bull for clear  so realistically can only afford to have it on one, not both)

disclosing tablets

I'm new here and have yet to get braced but I'll add a suggestion... go and buy some disclosing tablets at your supermarket or chemist (about 10 tablets for AUD 2.50) before using these tablets go through your usual dental routine (brush, floss, yadda yadda yadda) THEN use one of the tablets (pop it...
