Don't feel sorry for yourself - the sun is shining for the first time in ages here in London! But seriously, you know that whatever part of having braces you are feeling sorry for yourself about will pass in a few days and, whatever it is, will be worth it in the end (and a year is no time at all!)....

I am with Lou on this one - they just put up a board at my hospital with details of the number of missed appointments - I will have to write down the numbers next time I am there as it is truly scary how much time people are wasting by missing appointments. I didn't wait quite as long to begin my tr...

I have a large overbite and having the lowers on is something I am dreading! I have had the tops on for 2 months now, and my ortho reckons it will be at least another 3 months before he puts the lowers on - he is kicking my top teeth forward first before the lowers go on (so a case of looking a bit ...

I'm having by lower jaw moved forward to help get a better bite - mainly for functional reasons. 34 years of wearing away my lower jaw has done quite a bit of damage and I need to get it sorted to offer myself better opportunities in later life (if I carry on the way I am, I'll wear the jaw away unt...

36 I hope! Braces went on June 4th 2007 and I am expected to take two years to sort out.

Long way to go, but it'll be worth it!

Hello there As someone who's only recently had braces (about 7 weeks ago now) - also 34 and single - it was certainly one of my biggest concerns (along with how colleagues and friends would react). I certainly haven't had any issues with dating really (no more so than I did pre-braces anyway!). In a...

I certainly noticed small gaps and differences within the first day I am sure. I am now about 5 weeks in and can drive a bus through some of the gaps that have appeared! However - there are also some places I have always been able to floss and get a Tepe brush into - now it is very hard to. I am sur...

Aww....just a light... I was thinking primitive with torches of fire! OOH HOT! Just goes to show, there is always room for miscommunication even when speaking the same language. I prefer Miss Smiley's idea - I wonder what airport security would have to say about trying to travel with a great big fl...

Week 1 to 2 I noticed movement. Suddenly my front 2 teeth (which were aligned) were slightly out of alignment (I run my tongue over the back of them and I noticed there is a small difference). I am sure the other will catch up again soon! Also (I am only 4 weeks in at the moment) I have gaps where I...

We have (to a degree) public funded healthcare here in the UK paid for by tax incomes etc.

So, you wouldn't pay to see your doctor, have treatment at a hospital etc.

Hi Emerald My treatment is on the NHS (Kingston Hospital for the Orthodontics and Tooting will be where I have my surgery) I did not get a choice on the brackets - but not unhappy with what I have! So far - everything's been excellent. Kingston is a teaching hospital, so occasionally I get to be a s...

Weird as it might seem.. from the moment I started my treatment I also started feeling better about myself, even if my teeth are far from being perfect. But I do smile a lot and even if I show braces, I just don't care. I am already more beautiful, even after few days from starting the treatment. I...

Hi there I have a nice big overbite - so lower jaw will be moved forward with metal plates. The braces will move my front teeth forward (as well as an overbite, they are angled backwards (meaning I am stripping my lower jaw to bits)) At the moment, I'm not really thinking about the surgery (it's my ...

The braces have clearly not given my any web super-powers!

Anyone know why that did not work to display the image?
