Hey All, It's been a while since I've posted, but I've been reading. It's been a year and a few weeks since my sarpe surgery. I'm letting those who are still in the throes of all this that there is light at the end of the tunnel. My expander was removed in November (I think), and I've avoided a TPA ...

You can probably eat whatever you want. I predict that you won't want to eat a lot of solid food. It's a pain. Not a physical pain, just a pain in the *#%. The food gets stuck in the expander and it's hard to get out. Your entire mouth feels loose like you can't really trust it. It just ends up bein...

I don't mean to brag, but I keep getting really lucky. I mean, it's unlucky to need SARPE, but beyond that, things seem to be going really well. I'm about 99% off the hook for needing more surgery. I was originally scheduled to have Lefort 1 surgery, but it's pretty clear that I'm not going to need ...

Hey All, Sorry it's been a while since I've posted. There just wasn't a whole lot to say. I went to the ortho today. I've been using elastics (rubber bands) for the past couple of months and they have pretty much closed my open bite. It's pretty cool. It's weird, though. I'm accustomed to having lot...

When I recommend applesauce, it's not just because it's easy to eat. I found that it helped clean out my expander. No sugar added is the kind I used. I happen to prefer it to the sweetened applesauce, and it's better for the teeth. I'd force the applesauce up and over the expander and it would sort ...

crazybeautiful, Welcome to the wonderful world of palatal expansion. Nothing that you are experiencing is unusal. It sucks. It will get better, but it won't stop sucking completely. Soup and applesauce. I'm not a big pill popper, but an aspirin is worth trying. Annoyance is a common symptom; just do...

I wouldn't be too worried. If it's only this once, and it only lasted 15 minutes, and you are sick to begin with, I think you are OK. I was expecting pain, but never had any. If it were constant pain or you were in a lot of pain every time you expanded, then I'd be a little more concerned. Hope you ...

Ashley, You should definitely see more than one ortho. Unlike the $200 fee to see your surgeon, an ortho should give you a free evaluation. They want your business. If nothing else, you might hear what you need to hear. I probably should have had braces decades ago. Dentists told me that I should ge...

So Ashley, You are looking for a pretty smile. Is SARPE supposed to give you that? I suspect that they are recommending SARPE for reasons other than that. You said something about future TMJ issues. I have an open bite, which meant that my upper and lower teeth met only in the back of my mouth, so a...

My expander went in a few days before my SARPE surgey which took place on the last day of May. It came out on Nov. 1st. This has already turned into a story problem and I'm no good at math. I was supposed to go to an all you can eat lobster meal tomorrow, but I think it might be postponed for reason...

Expander gone! I had it removed yesterday! I'm free! OK, so here's the deal. It didn't hurt having it removed, but I know for others it can be painful. There's a lot of pressure for just a few seconds at a time to cut the bands around each of the four teeth. My teeth are not particularly sensitive, ...

So I got a couple of my lower teeth shaved down to a manageable size and shape today. Also, I'm scheduled to have my epander removed on Nov. 1st! I don't think I'll get a TPA right away because they want my upper arch to collapse a little bit, but I'll get one eventually. I also got my joke headgear...

Hey all, Sorry I haven't posted. Just been lazy. Had my ortho appt last Thurs. Uneventful. Expander still in. My lower incisors are crowded and she wants to shave the sides of them down. She put some spacers between them to make room for the drill or wheel or whatever she'll use. I go in tomorrow to...
