Thanks everyone, I thought about getting a metal pick but I was worried about potentially damaging my teeth? Can I scrape at them and not hurt them? I used a sewing needle to scrape at it, just to make sure it wasn't really cement, and some came off, but I stopped because I was afraid of hurting my ...

Plaque! Advice please??

I've had my lower bonded retainer for about 6 months. Now I've got a ton of yellow plaque forming between my front bottom teeth! At first I thought it was just the cement showing, but it is definitely spreading no matter how much I brush and floss. Clearly I need to go to the dentist for a cleaning....

My ortho's office told me that their oldest patient was 72 when she got her braces off. And she got a rainbow retainer :)

I had my upper #5's and lower #4's out in August of 07, the same month I was braced. I definitely felt self conscious! I definitely smiled smaller at first, because I didn't want the gaps to be visible. Fortunately the top extractions were a little further back, so people didn't notice them unless I...

If it's that bad why not get one of those bite plates that tooth grinders wear at night?

I would check with your ortho though to make sure that's not going to mess up your treatment, and maybe he has a better solution!

I also eat almost everything I ate before, just more carefully. My (short) no-no list: Corn on the cob Whole fruit (I cut it into pieces now) Toffee/Saltwater taffy/Very sticky caramel Bubble gum (tried it once... learned my lesson) I eat absolutely everything else. Even sugarless gum, I also use it...

I think that I am one of very few people who still have my wisdom teeth! I am very lucky that all 4 came in nice and straight. They also came early, when I was about 15 or 16! They didn't brace any of them, and I asked about that because I was also concerned with gaps. They said that the teeth would...

Perm. retainer WITH braces?

So at my adjustment the other day (14 months) they said that my bottom teeth are at almost the right spot (hooray!). So, at the next appointment they are going to put the permanent/bonded retainer on the bottom to "set" them. They aren't going to remove the bottom braces, but only because ...

Thanks you guys...
I'm not too worried and I'm very confident in my ortho's abilities; he has treated no fewer than 5 other people I know and they have no problems at all. I will however make a serious point of it to him, and try not to get a brush-off answer.

Jaw popping... after braces??

I've had braces for 10 months now. Before braces my jaw had never popped in my life. After about 4 months of braces it would pop occasionally; I know it's not supposed to and people get braces to FIX that! So I mentioned it to my ortho and he said to just not open my mouth too wide. Well now, 10 mon...

I've lost one so far.... eating hard candy  I just waited for my next appointment because this happened right before Christmas when the office was closed; I'm sure I probably could have demanded he see me but it wasn't really bothering me and why should I ruin his vacation? Or that of one of h...

Weird ties? What is this?

So I had my second adjustment today (got elastics hooray... ) and the ortho also added this weird tie thing. I forgot to ask what it was and I was wondering if anyone else knew. It's like fishing line, kind of, but stretchy. After taking out the archwire she wrapped this tie around each brack...

So I'm back at university and I'm starting to feel self concious. Everyone notices (obviously) and I just feel like they're so big and ugly, and there's no one else my age who has them. I'm starting to wonder if this was the right thing. I'm going to have them for at LEAST 2 years, thats my entire 2...
